Penicillin - Great for my tonsillitis

It started on a Sunday evening a few weeks back, my sore throat. I was feeling a bit weak, so I went to bed quite early. I had a terrible nights sleep, and felt awful when I got up. I asked my mum to get me an appointment at my doctors(she is a receptionist there), so she got me one mid morning. The doctor looked into my throat and said *'oh dear looks like you have got tonsillitis, you have white spots on your tonsils and they are inflamed'*. Then she said I am going to prescribe you some Antibiotics, which was **Penicillin**, she asked me if I was *allergic* to this, I wasn't. So off I went to the chemist to get my medicine. Got home and took one straight away. I had to take one tablet four times daily, one hour before food or on an empty stomach. I had a course of 7 days to take.

*Penicillin*

This medicine belongs to the penicillin group of antibiotics. It's an antibacterial drug to treat mild to moderate severe infections such as: chest and throat, skin and soft tissue, infections of the mouth, gums and teeth, and scarlet fever.

*Check** before taking this medicine, **do not take** if: you are allergic to penicillin or the ingredients, you are suffering from severe illness, nausea, vomiting or heart problems or if you are pregnant.

With me taking the Pill, my doctor warned me that taking penicillin can interfere with the Pill(there is a higher risk of pregnancy), so if I had sex then I was warned to take extra precaution(e.g. use a condom), 7 days while taking the penicillin and 7 days after.

There are some side effects(i didn't feel any) these include: nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, heart-burn and diarrhoea.

There are some allergic reactions such as: itching, fever, swelling of the body and joint pains.

This medicine is to be kept in a safe place away from children, it should be protected from heat, light and moisture.

This medicine is for **YOU only**. *Only* a doctor can prescribe it. **Never** give to someone else.

It took about 3-4 days to clear up, but I still had to take the 7 day course, as the doctor said. I never had any problems taking this medicine. This was my first time I have had tonsillitis and I hope I never have it again.
