Pune to Deviagar Apr 2011.
This was a short trip, I was hoping for it to be longer. Next time I will plan atleast 3 full days at Deviagar. Nice place, very friendly people and very polite. The beach is a virgin beach, with less than 20 people in the distance of 5-10 km's. Tree edges, no buildings or construction. Safe beach since its flat ground with not very powerful waves. Its what mumbai used to be.
Onward journey, I would recommend Pune-ChandaniChonk-Mulshi-Madgaon Diveagar route. This road is not NH quality, but good enough to drive on. If you prefer a good road that you should not take this road. Around mulshi dam there used to be just 1 resort, but now there are plenty. No petrol bunks though, so fill it up "in" pune. Dont wait. Carry water, juice, snacks and food enough for one meal.
On the way back I traveled on this route "Diveagar-Mangaon-Khopoli-Expressway-Pune. This route was fantastic, I liked it since the road quality was much better than the mulshi. In summer I would take this route up and down.
There are 5 routes
Pune- Chandani Chonk-Mulshi-MIDC-Mangaon-Deviagar -: 170km(rating roads 3/5)
Pune- Chandani Chonk-Mulshi-Cross MIDC-Mangaon-Deviagar: 190km(rating roads 3/5)
Pune- ExpressWay-Khopoli-Mangaon-Deviagar: 200km(rating roads 5/5)
Pune- ExpressWay-Khopoli-Pen-Mangaon-Deviagar: 263km(rating roads 5/5)
Bangalore Highway, some route from there, I have not been there. - May be 250km(rating?)
Now between Mangaon and Pen-Mangaon(which is the alibaug route) you can be confused. But its simple. When you take the khopoli exit at the expressway, the exit takes you east of the expressway, but to get to alibaug/diveagar, you need to get to west of the expressway.
Now, there is a over head bridge that takes you from east to west of the expressway, just as you cross that bridge, there is a straight road, which takes you to pen-alibaug, there is a left that takes you to NH17-Mangaon, and there is a immediate left after the left(dont take this road).
Take the left to get to NH17-Mangaon, and escape the pen route, shorter than 30-40 km's. Nice route, river side, just before you enter the NH17 road, you will see a river. Stop by, very beautiful.
At Diveagar we found hotels(which call them selves as resorts) charge between 700-3500. 700 are for guest houses, clean but lot of mosquitos, not classi:). But you can stay here with family safe. MTDC is a Super option if you want to pay 3500(on weekends, and 2500 on weekdays). MTDC is just on the beach.
As for other options we liked our stay at Pinakin. Nice staff, a good family owns this, and has some very good working staff. Kitchen was super clean as it was a home, and food was fantastic. Appox 175 for nonveg plate and 125 for veg. Nonveg fish and prawns were fantastic, veg is a problem across Diveagar, so dont count on veg food.
In Summer I recommend this route.
