I have seen the tamil movie Nayakan starring Kamal Hassan and I was left amazed by his screen presence and acting...and not to mention Mani Ratnam's direction and screen play. I heard that Dayavan (starring Vinod Khanna) was the Hindi version of this movie. I watched Dayavan and while it was good, it did not match the original in any way. VInod Khanna tried hard but the fact remains he is no Kamal Hassan.
Shakti Velu (Vinod Khanna)watches as his father gets killed by police violence. He gets his revenge and runs off to Bombay where he puts up in the slums. More police brutality to follow. The rich try to make the lives of the poor a living hell and Shakti Velu emerges as their saviour and hero. He becomes a gansgster who does good for the people but uses violence to achieve his goals. I don't want to say too much of the story here.
It is simply an amazing movie but please see the original tamil version or its dubbed hindi version ''Velu Nayakan'' instead of Dayavan. Its a lot better.
