Wireless ISP's are a relatively new thing in India. And if you are using a dial-up, you should definitely switch

Cable/DSL users may want to stick with their ISP's

Hutch(orange), Airtel, Reliance etc. are the wireless ISP's in India

I myself use reliance.

If you want to go in for a wireless ISP(it's FAR better than a dial up) then the important thing is to make a note of your internet usage patterns.

There are 2 types of wireless isp connections:

1) always - online - low bandwidth category - this category consists of the GPRS / GSM crowd. People who use the net for mainly email chatting etc(all the normal uses) . GPRS also allows you to stay online for most of the time(flat rates)

2) High bandwidth users - You need to connect to the internet once or twice a day only and need to download/upload lots of data(like me) then go in for reliance

GPRS(first category) should be more appealing to most normal users

however, if you have a LAN, consider going in for reliance and sharing net connection

if you travel all over the country, use reliance

If you want to be online all the time(at no extra cost) and can accept dial up speeds go for GPRS

If you are a student and you need to do projects, go in for reliance

NOTE: GPRS offers 43.2 kbps max and reliance offers 144kbps

GPRS comes for 500 to 700 per month for UNLIMITED access(flat rate)

Reliance(RConnect) comes for 40p a minute+ Rs 100 pm rental
