Not just another diary. Ease is the word. The author has been trying to show us the different hues of being or not being married in ones 30's. A strong point is the way every day begins in Bridget's diary - statistics!
The protagonist is a strong character; a woman, we all have inside us, whether we are married or not, whatever culture we belong to. The situations, as they pop up in her life, one after another, and the ideas and tricks that she uses, upon consultation with her friends, things which most of us have tried, when concerning relationships.
The other characters that are related to Bridget, and are so much a part of her life, are so much in place - without them, Bridget seems so confused and depressed. It is the combination and interaction of every character that gives each one of them their strength.
The author has touched upon various issues, though in a very light, humorous manner - homosexuality, marriage, women's liberation, jealousy, vulnerability, figure, internal confusion of the soul, sexual angle at work, etc, etc...
Not predictive despite being a diary.
A really witty life. One whole year. Resolutions.
A sequel of sorts by the same author :: Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.
