Doesn't it usually happen? Last year it was Khosla Ka Ghosla and this year it is Bheja Fry. Very often a medium or small budget movie conjures up more magic than any Yashraj or Karan Johar movie. If not at the box office then definitely in the hearts of the audiences. Given a bigger budget, such movies can become path breaking ones in bollywood. Bheja Fry is one such movie.

PLOT

Ranjit(Rajat Kapoor) is a big name in the music industry. His wife Sheetal(Saarika) is a successful singer. All it took to mess up Ranjit's life was one night. And one hell of a night it was! Ranjit's busy schedule makes him really stressed up and his only stress buster is making any unprofessional besura singer a bakra every friday. But then Bharat Bhushan(Vinay Pathak, the superman of the movie) turns up to be one of his bakras'. But who made who a bakra?! Bharat is a great singer and professionally an IT officer. He also happens to be a complete'idiot'. Ranjit invites him for dinner and what follows next is pure, no-slapstick, non-vulgar comedy.

PERFORMANCES

Performances are really top-notch. Saarika plays an ideal singer who dislikes it when someone's talent is humiliated. She plays her role quite effortlessly. Rajat Kapoor plays a stressed out musician. In the whole movie he plays the role of an irritated person who also has a badly broken back. Cool performance there. Milind Soman who plays another musician is a considerably small but notable part in the movie. He comes out with a natural performance. And finally comes Vinay Pathak. He plays the role of a singer cum IT officer. Watch out for the scenes when he suddenly breaks into a song. He is sure to make you laugh and hold your stomach. His performance is brilliant. Some people suggest that Bheja Fry hangs solely on Vinay Pathak's performance. This guy's gonna go a long way in bollywood!

MUSIC

There are no songs in the movie, thankfully. I dont mind songs if they are good but in movies like Bheja Fry, songs should be avoided. The background music goes nicely with the comical situations.

And well, there's nothing much to talk about music here.

TECHNICALITIES

The cinematography is quite okay, mainly because the entire incident in the movie takes place at Ranjit's posh bunglow. There are no effects, no action scenes and no computerised explosions. So, cynics, hold your pen!

VERDICT

I know i'm a bit late in writing this review. The story is really simple and has been told in a comical way. The movie has some excellent one-liners which are quite rib tickling. Overall, the movie's worth a watch even though Bean's out there with his own comical antics.

And P.S: Thank God its Friday.(You'll understand this if you've seen the film.)
