This is based on our experience, a few years ago. Our kids were subjected to some bad and baseless vindictive behaviour by a then middle school coordinator and a teacher(who we believe is now this school's middle school coordinator). Our kids then moved on to another school, which is much larger than BIS, but with extremely professional and child friendly teachers. Sharing the pros and cons of BIS as below:
Pros:
Smaller class size or strength compared to the other similar schools around;
Primary school teachers and their support staff are mostly, child friendly, follow their school policy of being all inclusive, and overall professional;
Cafetaria: Balanced meals with plentiful child friendly food options;
Art and Music: The school does a decent job of running these programs, despite the challenges of physical space and supplementing with child friendly teachers.
Cons:
Small space: lack of a decent size playground since this is housed on a small plot of land;
Sports: Not professionally run;
Middle School Coordinator: Disorganised, Bad management, Unprofessional behaviour along with a terrible attitude; Middle School Coordinators seem to be chosen or retained not because of their proven professional competency, but only because they have stayed in this school for a long time; Hence these coordinators misuse this power, with no way for a parent to seek accountability. Since, typically middle school curriculum or program is open ended and end result for a child is based on the individual discretion of a teacher / coordinator, unlike the high school curriculum which is as per a set IB or A levels expected or a set standard.
Overall summary: primary years is well managed. Beyond that, middle school option is only for those who are willing to pay tuition fees to only deal with a whimsical and a bad attitude from certain main teachers. We are unable to comment on the High School experience here. As mentioned above, middle school coordinator person leaves one with a terrible taste; as we have also heard from some of other parent friends here.
