Ranveer Singh as Bajirao Ballad, Deepika Padukone as Mastani Bai and Priyanka Chopra acting as Kashibai acted par excellence.
Plot
In the early 18th century, the Maratha court needs a new Peshwa. Bajirao passed all the tests in terms of warfare and knowledge and was appointed as the new Peshwa to the throne.
Mastani( Deepika Padukone), the illegitimate daughter of the Rajput King Chhatrasal( Benjamin Gilani) and his Muslim consort Ruhaanibai. Impressed by her skills as a warrior, Bajirao assists her with his army and defeats the invaders.
Mastani and Bajirao develop feelings for each other and he gifts her his dagger, which is a symbol of marriage among the Rajput.
Determined to pursue her love, Mastani arrives in Pune but is treated harshly by Bajirao's mother Radhabai and accommodated in the palace for courtesans.
Kashi pleads for Radhabai to release Mastani so that Bajirao can heal, but her attempt proves to be futile as Bajirao dies from the trauma of his hallucinations, just as Mastani passes away in captivity. The two fated lovers are shown to be united in death.
