I am not much of a liquer person,I have to confess. I much prefer a refreshing pilsner lager or a single malt whisky,but very occasionally I have sampled some liquers. Just about the most popular and one of the most versatile is the oh so creamy Baileys Irish Cream which is beautifully presented in a lovely brown coloured bottle.
The constituents of this so smooth,moorish,liquer include 50% Irish Cream and triple distilled Irish Whisky. No wonder then it is so smooth and ever so creamy ! The stuff made its public appearance as recently as 1974 and now reputedly it sells in over 130 countries around the world. Along with Guinness it must be Ireland's greatest beverage export.
Apart from being very smooth and creamy I feel that it has a caramel scennt about it and is very nice served over crushed ice or even ice cubes. It is certainly,in my view, best served chilled. I have also had this Irish nectar in various Malaysian restaurants served with coffee-a wonderful combination for sure.
I suppose its got all the ingredients and flavours I really like-whisky, cream,caramel, and,since I also love filtered coffee, a Irish Coffee with real Irish whisky, Baileys Irish Cream,topped with some yummy dairy cream,makes a lovely drink.
It is ,I believe, around 34 proof and its alcohol content by volume is 17%,, so it is not too disimilar in this respect to the likes of a red wine.If you have yet to seek out the pleasures of Baileys Irish Cream,I would heartily recommend you give it a try!
