Ashutosh Gowariker is a person who created legends in the Film industry by producing two movies. His movies were not like those regular ones which we have had in bollywood, they were quite different - Laagan & Swades.
Laagan was a movie which was nominated for the Oscar awards as well. It was of great pride for the film industry as well as being one of the few Bollywood movies nominated for the Oscars. Laagan is a movie from the time of the British rule on India & how Indians have fought against the British rule with great self respect & sustenance.
Swades dint do so well I the box office but no doubt it was not the usual type. It was about the Project Manager at NASA space centre & how he leaves his entire career, his post for the betterment of his country.
Before coming into direction Ashutosh has also played a good role as a director & also as an actor. In 1993 he made his debut as a director with Pehla Nasha as it was not appreciated much but when he directed Bazzi he enjoyed an average success.
He has also acted in many award winning Marathi films as well as TV serials Dhoop, Circus, CID.
Thus Ashutosh has done a lot for the film industry-acting, production, direction & writing. Our film industry expects more from such a talented man.
