*Nothing Last Forever - No Secret can Stay Buried*

*By Vish Dhamija*

I usually like to read the novels of Indian Authors. I can feel and read their books very well and understood the events because the backgrounds of stories are of Indian. The language and writing style of these novels are understandable. I bought this book just to see the title of the book with thinking in the mind that I will read it in spare time. But very soon, story and its plot fascinated me and forced me to read it. I could not keep myself away from this book. During reading time, I always have a desire to know what will happen next. I have read many mystery novels and watch movies, what I think about the next part of story became same. But in this novel, my thoughts not succeed. I could not able to catch the plot. But when conspiracy was revealed, main culprit was caught, a small smile comes on my lips and I tapped my shoulder that I bought best book. You can’t imagine the end of this novel. I did it but I was failed. Murder was the first thing come in every mystery based novel and a detective investigate this. But not so in this book, well crafted and narrated story with the composition of appreciable conspiracy, mystery and suspense which end is presented in most spectacular way. Characters, events and places were mentioned and presented very beautifully. The story not only fixed to India, author will move you to abroad also.

The main story of this novel is related to stock exchange scam held in 90’s in India. Author used this plot in last part of this novel when mystery revealed layer by layer. Author presented this story in three parts. 1st part is stating the death of Raj, husband of Serena. Mr. Raj was died due to fire accident happened in his house. Serena was not there that time; she was in Singapore that time. Police investigate the accident to clear out any foul play. During the investigation, Inspector Michael found that Mrs. Kim, family friend of Raj and Serena and rising fashion model, had some last conversation with Raj. Kim told to police that Raj did some abuse and unusual conversation with her. Inspector Michael suspects Kim for murder but Kim used her contacts and forced to Michael to clean her name from this investigation. Higher authorities forced Inspector Michael to stop the investigation and close the case. During this investigation Serena worked in India as Banker. Serena and Kim became best friends. When case was closed, Serena shifted her to abroad.

The middle and second part of this related to past life or college life of Raj and Serena. Raj, Serena and Kabeer were best friends in Management College in Delhi. Kabeer loves Serena but when he saw that Serena is in love with Raj, he kept himself out from this equation. After completion of MBA Raj and Serena have married and shifted to Mumbai. Raj started an investment consultant firm in Mumbai. Both were living their life very happily. After MBA, Kabeer joined PCS and went in Police Service.

Later a special investigation team was formed under ACP Kabeer to investigate the scam in Stock exchange. This scam is related to use of fake of documents to cheat the customer in Stock Exchange of Mumbai. ACP Kabeer teamed up with Inspector Michael as assistant and start investigation from root level. Every fake paper was investigated by Michael and he find out the main source of these fake papers. Michael got very sensational information after the investigation of these fake papers. These fake documents are related to Mr. Raj Consultant office. ACP Kabeer and Inspector Michael went to depth of this scam. Then ACP Kabeer got this knowledge that Raj was his college friend and stated strange news about Raj.

You can dive in these three parts of novel and sometimes keep it you to high and sometimes down. First part shows the love and affection of Serena and Kim. First part shows you the investigation done by honest inspector and destruction of his case after receiving pressure from higher authorities. You can see love between Serena and an Italian man. Second part shows you the friendship, college life and love triangle. Third part presents the thorough investigation that’s keep you in touch with the book. In climax author presents the beautiful environment to reveal the mystery.

The character of Serena is very strong as wife, friend and banker. Author shown his best efforts in characterization of this character. Ms. Kim was also come in good shade but author gives limited work in this novel. The Character of Inspector Michael and ACP Kabeer are very nice and well presented. The third part is fully depending on these police officers and their investigation. There are many characters that role is limited and not need explanation.

The story is slow but very well drafted and composited. The plot is wide and many characters were in this. But there are only 5-6 main characters whose leads this story to the end. Author presents suspense, drama, mystery, investigation, predictions in first part and last part. You can also see the workings of banks in India and foreign country. I think author did lot of research work before presenting this story on paper. This is a fictional novel but some of incidents are related to realty.

I like this novel very much and enjoyed it while reading. You can go for it. A different plot, different Idea, different thought. You can’t miss it. It is the novel different from many angles.
