Ananth Mahadevan,who previously directed ?Dil Vil Pyar Vyaar?,is back again,on the scene,with his latest film ?Dil Maange More?.
By now,we have seen many films,where three guys were in love with one girl,such as ?Tum Bin?,?Pyaar Ishq Aur Mohabbat? and ?Nayee Padosan?,etc.
This time,there are three heroines paired with one hero.This film is touted as a romantic comedy,which stars Shaahid Kapoor as the main hero,who is looking after a hit,after a fop ?Fida?,to get back to his ?Ishq Vishk? days.With him,are paired three heroines.Soha Ali Khan (sister of Saif Ali Khan and daughter of Sharmila Tagore),makes her much awaited debut with this film.
The other heroines are Ayesha Takia,who earlier starred in ?Taarzan-The Wonder Car? and Tulip Joshi (a.k.a Sanjana in ?Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai?).With such a fresh star cast,will Ananth Mahadevan succeed,as a director,this time?
THE FILM:
Four Walls Productions.?Dil Maange More?,directed by Ananth Mahadevan,stars Shaahid Kapoor,Soha Ali Khan,Tulip Joshi,Ayesha Takia,Smita Jayakar and Gulshan Grover.Shahid Kapoor stars in this film to prove everyone that he can succeed without Ken Ghosh and Kareena Kapoor,as well,so this time around he is not with either of them.Will he be able to prove his worth?
THE CHARACTERS AND PERFORMANCES:
1.Nikhil(Shaahid Kapoor):Nikhil is a young boy,who lives in Samarpur and loves playing football,there.In his life,there comes a twist,when his girlfriend leaves samarpur and goes to Mumbai.There,he meets two other girls and ends up falling in love with three girls.Shaahid Kapoor acts well and oozes lots of confidence,but he looks like a kid,throughout this film.He looks too young too romance around with three girls,but never mind.He has done a very good job and he dances very well,too.
2.Neha(Soha Ali Khan):Neha is a very ambitious girl,who does not want to stay on in Samarpur,but wants to go to Mumbai,to become a air hostess.For this cause,she is even willing to leave her boyfriend.Soha Ali Khan really resembles a lot with her brother Saif and her mother Sharmila Tagore,as well.Coming to her acting,she needs lots of improvement.She seems to be too artificial and fake.She needs to be more natural and she also looks as if she is elder to Shaahid.her chemistry with Shaahid is also terrible.He looks like a kid,infront of her.Neha`s role also didn`t suit her well,because she does not look so delicate as Neha was to be.
3.Shagun(Ayesha Takia):Shagun is a very strong-headed girl,who all the time remains angry with Nikhil,who happens to be living in the apartment,next to hers.She constantly keeps on threatening Nikhil,that she might call the police,etc.Ayesha Takia does a good job,as Shagun.She looks very confident and also has lots of screen presence,but she suffers due to a poorly sketched character.Nobody behaves as Shagun,in this film.Infact,I found her character to be highly inspired by that of Preity Zinta`s in ?Kal Ho Naa Ho?.Nevertheless,she has done a good job.
4.Sara(Tulip Joshi):Sara is a hard-working but a joyful girl,who works in a video shop and becomes a very good friend of Nikhil,who happens to be another salesman in the video shop.Tulip Joshi has improved a lot over her previous performance in ?Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai?.She has acted quite well,and also fits into the character to the T.She is looking very gorgeous in the film,as well.Let`s hope to see more of her,in future.
Smita Jayakar as Nikhil`s mother,looks very artifical and fake.Gulshan Grover is loud and irritating.
THE STORY:
The film revolves around Nikhil,a young boy who lives in Samarpur,and loves playing football for his college.He also has a girlfriend Neha,with whom he dreams of getting married,and spending his whole life with her in Samarpur,but Neha has some other plans.She is more practical and wants to go to Mumbai and become an air-hostess.She also wants Nikhil to come along with her to Mumbai.Initially,Nikhil refuses to go to Mumbai.
Just as Neha`s train leaves off to Mumbai,he realizes that he should also go after her.Finally,after somedays,Nikhil reaches Mumbai,where he accidentally meets up with Shagun,at the railway station.Shagun,hates him in the first sight,but surprisingly,Shagun turns out to be his neighbour,as her apartment is next to Nikhil`s.
Shagun is a very modern girl who lives with her mother in an apartment.One day,Nikhil goes to a video shop,which is next to the place where Neha is completing her air-hostess course.Nikhil,luckily gets a job there,as the owner of that shop feels that he can be a very useful salesman for the shop.There he meets Sara,who is also a saleswoman there,and so they all become friends.Now Nikhil,has three girls in his life,with whom he interacts.
There is Neha,whom he meets whenever he is free.There is Shagun,with whom he messes up,whenever he is at home and of course there is Sara with whom he chats and spends a good time,when he is at work.Suddenly,he realizes that he is in love with all of them,but which one of them should he choose?
THE WORK OF THE CREW:
Ananth Mahadevan does a good job,as a director.He has handled the light moments between the hero and all the three heroines,brilliantly which don`t fail to entertain you,but the film isn`t tight enough to grip your attention.The light moments begin to look very monotonous and the second half becomes very predictable.There is not enough scope for drama,and that`s why the film can only be entertaining.It is by no means,an interesting film.
Screenplay is not captivating at all.Nikhil seems to be a totally confused character.His feelings towards all the three girls is not justified well.This thing is not at all,defined,that when and how he started liking Shagun and Sara along with Neha?Sara is also a very half-baked character.She just seems to be completely lost.Shagun`s character is also very poorly sketched.Why does she remain so irritated and unpleasant all the time and how come her mother lets a young boy,like Nikhil in,when she has a young daughter,with whom he always tries to mess up?
Editing could have been better.It may sound clichéd but the second half gets terribly long and could have been trimmed down a bit.
Cinematography is very good.The locales of Goa and Malaysia have been captured on the celluloid,beautifully.
