Humor with a message. Review on 3 Idiots

I think 3 Idiots is a breezy entertainer and a decent flick albeit with an urgent message. Most of the narration is in the flashback. Farhan (Madhavan), Raju (Sharman Joshi) begin a journey in locating their long-lost friend, Ranchoddas Shyamaldas Chajaad or Rancho for short. Rancho (Aamir Khan) had disappeared after touching their lives profoundly during their college days as room mates. The movie revolves around the lively way they go through the emotional highs and lows that the college exposes them to. Mainly the focus is on Rancho and his antiques which keeps you glued to the seat. The so-called "villain" in the movie is Viru Sahastrabuddhe or "virus" (Boman Irani), a typical professor in an engineering college, set in his ways of instructing the students.

Through this two-dimensional character Rancho makes pointed jabs at the current Indian educational system. A tech-whiz and someone like a "jack of all trades", Rancho wants to promote original thinking, attacking the classist examination system based on rote. He also questions the relevance of the students pursuing traditional streams under parental pressure. Rancho succeeds in his mission by playing the fool and yet emerging a winner, while his friends remain flunkeys. The romantic angle in the movie is provided by Rancho's interest in Pia (Kareena Kapur), who happens to be Virus' younger daughter. The music score is light and entertaining.

On the whole, the movie, produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and directed by Rajkumar Hirani,  guarantees good laughs yet exposing the audience to some important life lessons. A movie worth  watching.
