Very very nice review Mathurji........... That was the age when romance was innocent and decency prevailed in movies..... I remember seeing this movie long ago but your review made it come afresh once again........ the songs were really good and the picturization too....... what i really ...liked about the movie was it was not limited to any caste or creed, any religion or locality....... the shadows of the movie could be identified by any indian...... that is what makes the movie special.... thanks. Great review Mathurji.......... very detailed and story like......... this movie was a forerunner of that period where Revolution was the saga of the Indian cinema....... one important poin to be noted here is prior to this movie, very few superstars came forward to act against justice in Indian... movies. They were scarred of the aftermath and bad reputation......hence a movie like Raj Drohi did not feature any superstar....... but slowly with the advent of movies like Meri Aawaz Suno, Revolution became a trend and countless movies were made showing the Heroes as the Knights fighing against blind justice and goons..... this was the phase where romantic heroes like Jeetandras and Dharmendras were inclined to become Action Heros...... The only irony in this movie ( and rightly it is a fiction and not a fact) is it does not come up with any solution, rather it aspires the common man to take the justice in their hand...... by asking in the end... ( Now You Decide)..... this movie was released in 1981 and am not surprised that in 2008 another movie was released catching the theme of this movie called '' A Wednesday''..... where the Common Man had decided that it is time for him to take the justice in his hands. Grt review , keep writing.... SolRead More

Good and decent review........... I think the movie is not as bad as projected..... the script writer or the story writer has the easiest of all the jobs since it is difficult to get an easier story that this.......... Madhavan suited the shy and timid character,,,,,,, Jimmy Shergill was just awesom...e..... had it not been for the bad ending, he would have rocked..... Kangana was little dramatic... and her change of heart was as doubtful as her character..... am sure she would have left Madhavan the next day after their marriage....... but my favourite pic was Madhavan's friend...... he was ultimate in his expressions and encouragement..... superb act from his end........ Two scenes which I did not like at all 1. Where Madhavan takes Kangana's pictures while she is intoxicated ( common how can a timid, shy, mannered guy like this can do that.... and if that was not enough he comes of and says that he liked the girl) 2. The ending: Jimmy Shergill lengthy dialogue falls completely flat as an emotional blackmailer to the audience......Read More

Excellent review....... nowadays it is almost rare to see movies like these....... the director really put his observation, heart and soul in the movie...... The cast is well selected....... while the movie is still customized to meet the viewrs requirement, people who are into reading Munshi Prem...chand stories and novels will be able to relate it better....... it is important to note that there cannot be any meaningful ending to these kind of stories, the only meaning behind encrypting such message is to arouse feelings amongst educated people about the wrong doings and the mishappenings........... Am not sure about my observation though but I have found out ( ofcourse with my experience) that the middle class people are the category of people who can probably relate to these kind of stories...... the lower class do not have money to see in theatre to actually what happens to them and the rich ones do not have time for all these...... they are busy with exotic pleasures of life...... And that is the reason why Mathurji, your observation ’Ardh-rathi Karna dies, the caste system still survives’ holds true.Read More

Very good write up.... It is surely not a gret Horror movie by any means, by as rightly pointed by you it definetely a grt thriller ( mixed with Horror)...... your comparision with the movie Magalsutra is also apt.......... Of all the characters ( though Bipasha and Dino were well suited), I liked M...alini Sharma and Ashutosh Rana the most...... they played limited but very crucial role..... ( Bipasha can atleat boast of couple of things like her sex appeal, song picturization, lead acctress meaty role, and Dino can boast of his handsome looks, people like Ashutosh and Malini can only bet their lives on the limited role they have).... and they deliver it with panache...... I did not like the ending of the movie to be very honest, it was too clumsy and childish....... and the usual act of female forgiving male was too obviously done..... I wish the director could have passed the message subtly...... anyways it is an overall entertainer...... and so was your review.... Read More

Excellent review..... extremely well customized to the need...... the movie was a cult classic for several reasons..... Gabbar Singh became the cult figure...... I have heard that the movie's ending was changed 4 times...... it could not pass the censor due to violent picturariztion for the first th...ree times..... and in those times there was no scope of releasing the same movie with different endings in foreign countries ( for example Aankhein - shows two different endings) Once again Congratulations for the fantastic review..... loved reading it.... excellent review for an excellent movie..... this is a real time Hindi classic...... and one while you have mentioned 2 important points about the movie like ( No heroine and No Songs), one more point is No Superstar. The movie has performers. One reason why it becomes a very close movie is because is so natural and real. Looks like the discussion is happening on one of our bedroom or verandah .Read More

good job.... nice review for a nice movie....... one good point about this movie is unlike usual underworld movies where lot of bloodshed and violence in projected, this movie works mainly because of its dialogue delivery and pace..... infact it is one of those very rare gangster movies which can be... recommended for a family also....... the comparision between two dons and the silent role played by the police is really amazing...... Kangana is glamourous and Prachi is a perfect fit for Imraan.... she communicates amazingly through her eyes...... Imran Hashmi though has been sincere to this role, I think the director spent too much time crafting Sultans image in Ajay and did not give much scope to Imraan. I mean while Ajay succeeds in gaining support from the people in the movie coz of his image in the movie, Imraan does not create that much hatred..... the songs are really good except for the cabret number which was a spoiler..... Ranjeet Hooda as the Inspector is the surprise package...... lean, tall, musculat and crispt..... an ideal inspector..... amazing dialogue ability as well..... over all definitely a watchable movie, and a good review too. hey this is a real good review..... appreciating a class movie like Gulal deserves appreciation in itself. Am quite sure the mass will not like it. it is meant for the intellectual class, especially for people who like history and politics..... Kay Kay Menon is such a great actor..... amazing.......... and a very good review indeed..... to the point , clear and crisp. Do check my review on Chitra Singh and leave comment. SolRead More

Excellent review....... What I really liked about the movie is the name ' Joggers Park'. It is the place from where the emotions arise and mingle. More than the characters, the place takes over everything and all characters become a part of it. Victor Banerjee is a gem of an actor. It is a great l...oss for the Bollywood directors not to have used him often. He is a class actor and towers above anyone else. Perizaad is another beauty to watch. Except for her voice, everything is pretty about her. And she has matched perfectly with a seasoned actor like Victor to bring the main essence of the movie. Another highlight part of the move is the ghazal sung by the maestro Jagjit Sing ( Badi nazuk hai ye manzil). It is such a beauty of a song and who else who have sung it better that the Ghazaljeet Singh himself. What a velvey voice he has. The ending of the movie was little haphazard, otherwise, it is a well crafted movie made for sensible audience. SolRead More

that was a decent review......... Jungle was a good attempt, atleast, in terms of presenting something different to the audience...... Rajpal Yadav and Sushant were the main show stealers.... Rajpal coz he was so wild and beastly, Sushant coz he was so restrained and controlled..... he really expres...sed a lot with his eyes... Sunil Shetty gave an amazing performance.... the best part about the movie is the Jungle itself.... spooky, scarry, haunted and towering above everything else........ Urmila as usual overacts and Fardeen as usual does not act...... Songs are irrelevant and not required..... some scenes are breathtaking.... Overall..... should be viewed, atleast once....
