The great legend of Hindi movies Shammi Kapoor is no more. He passed away at the age of 79.

Shammi Kapoor was born on October 21, 1931. His father was the great Prithviraj Kapoor. He made his debut in 1953 in the movie Jeevan Jyoti. Initially Shammi used to do more of serious roles and his acting did not create much of an impact.

It was in 1957, that in the movie Tumsa Nahin Dekha, that he truly acquired the image of a flamboyant, happy-go-lucky dancing star. This was followed by a series of hit movies including Junglee which brought him superstar status.

Like his brother Raj Kapoor, Shammi too preferred to use Shankar-Jaikishan for the music of most of his movies and he chose Mohammed Rafi as his voice. The combination of Rafi and Shammi was unparallelled in the history of Hindi film music.

Throughout the 50s and 60s, he dominated the Indian film industry with his unique acting. However, in the 70s in the wake of the Rajesh Khanna domination, his career came to an end with Andaz being his last hit.

Shammi Kapoor's songs are famous even today and have given joy to many generations of Indians. As we bid a final goodbye to him, here are some of his famous songs:

Ayyayya Karoon Mai Kya Sukhu Sukhu (Junglee)

Aaj Kal Tere Mere Pyar Ke Charche (Brahmachari)

Aaja Aaja Main Hoon Pyar Tera (Teesri Manzil)

Aasman Se Aaya Farishta (An Evening in Paris)

Aye Gulbadan Aye Gulbadan (Professor)

Baar Baar Dekho (Chinatown)

Chahe Koi Mujhe Junglee Kahen (Junglee)

Dil Deke Dekho (Dil Deke Dekho)

Is Rang Badlti Duniya (Rajkumar)

Lal Chadi Maidan Khadi (Janwar)

Savere Waliu Gadi Se Chale Jayenge (Laat Saheb)

Subanallah Haseen Chehre (Kashmir Ki Kali)

Tarif Karoo Kya Uski (Kashmi Ki Kali)

Zindagi Ek Safar (Andaz)

There will never be a unique actor like him.

May Shammi Kapoor's soul rest in peace.
