The Movie ‘CJ7’ is a science fiction with a comic bent, directed and produced by Stephen Chow. He even stars in the film. The other producers are Chiu Po-Chu and Han Sanping. The film has been shot in Ningbo in China and was released in 2008.

The plot of the story revolves around a poor labourer, Chow Ti working on a construction site and his son, Dicky. The labourer wants to save money so that he can continue his son’s education in a private school. His son is often bullied by his friends in school due to his poverty. Dicky finds solace in a young teacher, Ms. Yuen. One day Dicky asks his father for a costly robotic toy, called CJ1, but he is rebuked by him at the store. On visiting the junkyard Chow gets Dicky a green orb, a toy better than a robotic toy. Hesitatingly, Dicky starts liking the orb and names him ‘CJ7’ after the latter transforms into an alien creature. CJ7 gives Dicky whatever he lacks in life. First, Dicky starts making new friends in his school who love him. He makes a place for himself among his classmates. He becomes a good student. The friendship of CJ7 and Dicky grows stronger day by day. Ms. Yen is happy to see Dicky’s confidence and his no more sobbing attitude.

One day Chow gets hurt while working in the site and after being admitted in the hospital, finally dies. Ms. Yuen gives Dicky the sad news. Dicky is lost but CJ7 brings back his father to life. CJ7 goes away leaving a message for Dicky to ‘continue being a good student at school’. Dicky is thrilled to see his father alive and promises to be loyal to his studies, which was his only dream. Dicky misses CJ7 but finds a UFO landing nearby brings many aliens to him. He and his father live happily.

The film is mainly for children with some sci-fi effect. The bond of love between the father and his son is well portrayed. It is a good film to watch with family.
