Reviewed The Chancery - Residency Road - Bangalore

I have been to the Chancery a couple of times. They are a decent restaurant, but my latest experience has left a bitter taste in the mouth. We booked a table for twelve two days in advance only to be told on the day of our visit that the place has been given to a party of 300 people. The only...Read more

I am not sure how anyone with a financial bent of mind would make a movie like Strangers because it caters to a very exclusive section of the Indian audience. You realize that even before the movie begins. The theatre was filled to thrity percent of its capacity on its opening Sunday in Bangalor...Read more

Moody, dreamy, romantic, exotic, opulent, coy, self-indulgent, other worldly.just the terms you would use to describe the music of Saawariya. Much in sync with the nature of the movie, or as it appears from the trailers, Saawariya's music is tuned in to the sensitivities of its director. Followi...Read more

Himesh's songs are good time pass but only a handful of them have meaningful lyrics and most of the tunes are repititive. If only Himesh could slow down a little and seriously work on his tunes and with good lyricists, people would speak of him really well. It doesn't help matters when you sw...itch on any channel and there is a Himesh song. There is only so much you can take right? You can hear Lata, Asha, Rafi for over an hour because their songs were by different composers and of course, let me not even do the mistake of comparing Himesh with them.Read More

In case you did ntot know PC is hardware and MS Office is software. Only a fool would assume that the cost of PC includes all the software installed on it. If someone comes home and asks the cost of my PC, I am not going to add the cost of all the software on my machine and tell him. Grow up!

You may admire your idol but that does not mean that others should not be allowed to differ. No person is perfect and fans rarely tend to look at the negative side of their idols. By pooh-poohing critics, you are only lowering the standards of your review.

You have a great writing style. A little more effort and formatting and you should be one of the best reviewers around here! 'Every boy's wet dream come true!' ROFL!

There has been no opposition because by and far, most of Chennai understands Tamil and so, are content paying the rupees eighty or hundred with which they get all their regional channels. There is a separate section for commenting about Lataji, the singer. Your review is decent but under the wrong heading.

Coming from a Tamilian, it was a real neat review on Bong food. I thought that all madrasis couldn't think beyond their curd and sambar rice!

I did not want to see this movie despite all the hype and going by the n number of reviews advising against it, I guess I will catch up with this on a CD on a rainy day. At least that way, I will get past all those Alka's songs. Many of my friends are cribbing that the dialects in the movie are ...hugely inconsistent -- it is a mixture of avadhi, khadi-boli, rajasthani, and half-baked urdu. Now at least they had the patience for the loopholes. Keep writing. My review on this will take quite some time.Read More

Guys, thank you all for commenting. I am sure everyone will have their own take on the album but like Rahul says, we will have to wait a few more years to talk about it in the right perspective. Gia, I give this a three because I think that Anu's music is great and there may be the lesser discer...ning who can digest Javedsaab's lyrics.Read More

I did not like Gulzar's lyrics in Jaan e man too for that matter. However, if I had to have it my way, it would have been a combination of urdu poets like Nida Fazli, Shahryar etc...and the music composed by Jagjit Singh. Shreya Ghoshal, Richa Sharma, and even Sadhana Sargam would top my list for th...e singers. Alka's range is way too limited.Read More

It is difficult for me to review any album that is a remake especially when the originals have been classics themselves. Mujras and Ghazals top the list of songs that I listen to and so, I cannot help but compare Anu's Umrao Jaan against the best. Again, as I said in my review, Anu does put in a sin...cere effort. The lyrics compared to what I am used to in the classics, cater to the lowest common denominator of the audience. Musicwise, there is not too much experimentation one can do with Ghazals and Mujras because the orchestra has to be minimal to highlight the lyrics. Here, the lyrics are so bad that Anu's effort is totally overshadowed. It is high time that people told Javed Akhtar that metaphors are not the only things that make good poetry. He has written some lovely songs earlier but this album is a definite letdown. Ditto for Alka who shrieks her way through some of the numbers. Listen to the original Umrao Jaan and you will notice the difference.Read More

Well, when I talk of the Dhoom generation, I am speaking for the majority in gennext who have never heard the classics. Like you, I have never thought much of the previous Don. I did not like the previous Umrao Jaan as a movie all that much but the music was unbeatable. I am not for remakes j...ust for the reason that when there are so many stories to be told, why would one want to tell something that has already been told, even if it were a trifle imperfect?Read More

However, I still feel that for the Dhoom generation, which has never experienced melodies like Paakezah and Mughal e azam, this might be some beginning. That is why I reccoed the album. Personally, I don't think I am going to revisit the album anytime soon.
