Nik,
Thank you for your kind words.
Lack of formatting - It's an MS thing - I submitted this last Sat. night. It just got published sans formatting. Please check now.
Yes, these are nothing but thought process. I used to believe that Ethics/Philosophy could not be so well portrayed on th...e tinsel screen.
I have lined up the Three Color Trilogy for viewing inspired by Decalogue. Thanks for recommending.
Thanks,

I am subscribing to Netflix after a brief dalliance and disappointment with blockbuster stores (More about it in a review on these, later). While browsing for good movies to see, I ran into this interesting series called Decalogue. Fortunately for me, there was a short summary on the movies. It e...xplained to me that these were a series of 10 movies (one hour long) made for Polish TV viewers.
It intrigued me – ‘decalogue’? What is it? Deca is ten, dialogue is two people talking; so is it something about 10 people talking? Ten people talking?? What a noise it will be? Reminded me of Yogi Berra...It was hard to have a conversation with anyone; there were so many people talking. These thoughts flashed through my mind as I pondered on it.
(Couldn’t imagine what the American broadcasters would have made out of such a theme – with their obsession with 13 for a season – may be they would have added a prologue and epilogue to make it 12, what about the 13th episode? And how do you fit 13 into a series with a biblical theme. Thank God! It was Polish). Later, Wikipedia told the Testament-blind me that Decalogue also refers to 10 commandments.

Rajni,
A honest look at the state of the TV Industry(?).
You have vented part of my frustrations with TV - whether in the US or India recently.
My solution to the problem here is - I don't own a TV, don't subscribe to cable - period. I used to be glued to Friends here - the end gave me a...n excuse. So, when I moved to my own home, I decided not to own one.
Funny thing is, I didn't find things different in India when I went visiting this Vishu. People don't want to entertain guests at all during the times of their fav serials. My college going sister spends about 3-4 hours a day just channel surfing.
My pet peeve with TV is that it is not interactive - you don't have an opportunity to contribute nor choice.
Seeing good old DD in these lights makes me miss it - with quality productions like Swami, Udaan and all.
On a positive note, capitalism is about choice - the whole point of liberalising the media. And the consumer has to choose - caveat emptor. Use discriminatory powers in making the choice. Collectively, we the consumer can vote with our feet and the media will notice.

Reminded me of home, especially bcos I am reading this after Onam.
I used to have a lot of paalada pradhaman's growing up in Kerala, mostly on the banana leaf. Nothing beats it.

Sri,
I didn't know you were still writing until I saw the notification today. You still have 'it'.
I haven't been around MS much - just drop in once in a while to check on old friends who are still writing.
So long,
Nathan

Powercut was the real half hour I really enjoyed. While in school, it meant half an hour of not studying. In college, it meant half an hour of listening to music without TV blaring from the living room (TG, they didn't have battery operated TV back then). Later, I found that it was a good way to ...spend quality time with my parents - we would sit outside - enjoy the breeze - one of our parents (mostly Dad) would spend time reminiscing about his childhood. It was one of those rare occasions when he really would talk for a long time.
Anyways, the mosquitoes apart, it was fun. Then in 2000 or 2001 they decided to exempt us from powercut, too bad.
I sometimes wonder, how the Americans would react to a powercut.

First to comment. That's great.
Interesting topic - about stress. My solution is meditation - it really works. You glide through your day. Of course, this is after time management, a to-do list and all those 'gimmicks'.
Finally one without the whacky RJ sense of humor after a long break.... Good one, anyways.

...see that many hindi movies.
I remember Roop ki rani Choron..., Prem to which I was dragged by my college mates. I developed a long-lasting allergy to bollywood.
Keep penning, we rjois...er..rejoice in your style.

I remember seeing some of them.
This what I miss on the web edition of ET. I used to go through Brand Equity only for those (FYI, I am a Finance guy - Brand Equity was the last thing I read for quite sometime).
