Times of India(dated 1st May 2007)says something good about Indian’s eating habits.
“Highway to health: India eating better!Red meat out; Fruits, Green veggies in.’’ The latest report by National Sample
Survey organization says that we’re becoming freshetarian and more health
conscious.
*Healthy data** -Smoking has dropped 30%(cigarettes 30%, bidi 26%) in urban cities, consumptionof meat is down by 6%, consumption of eggs went up by 60%, green veggies like
saag etc went up by 12%, edible oil rose by 30% and lastly a conspicuous fall
in vanaspati, coconut oil and other unhealthy oil.
Well enough of statistical data, lets come to the crux of
the whole thing! We’re becoming more health conscious and we've started eating less of
unhealthy stuff! well that’s a great news for us. In light of this new report
and marvelous news, I’d love to advice my readers on how to eat healthy and live well
:
*1. Go sprouted - **It may sound strange to few people, but this is the most nutritious and oil free
diet for people of all age group. Sprouted food can be **prepared at home**( by keeping the desired pulse in little moist cloth or keeping it in the box specially made for growing sprouts) **or can be bought. **The choice is
definitely yours, but it’s advisable to always prefer home made stuff.
*2. Go fresh - **Fruits and salad – you cant ignore’em** - **These should form the bulk part in your
diet. They provide you with unlimited amount of fiber and numerous vitamin required
to cope up with deficiencies and filling the body with freshness.
*3. Go Green – **green
symbolizes veggies. From ages we’ve been told that a balanced diet can’t be
complete without green vegetables and pulses. Well even new generation people
agree with this, that’s what the data says – we’re going green!
*4. Go White – **white
symbolizes Milk, milk products and eggs**.
Milk** has all the vitamins other then vitamin c. To ensure that your diet is
balance and complete, make sure have do take milk and its products(even ice
cream is healthy if it has milk cream in it!) taking milk with boost, milo,
daliya and corn flacks is highly recommended. Let’s talk about **Egg**, some people’re not comfortable with
egg. That’s okk! but if you’re comfortable with it, if the best thing to eat
in winters . even pastries have eggs in them! next time you go for it,
remember they’re nutritious!(but they’ve lot of fat substance, therefore not recommended
on daily basis)
*5. Go Red** – red symbolizes
non- veg stuff. Although I’m by and
large a vegetarian person(but enjoy pastries also which have eggs), I won’t be
able to guide you much about non-vegetarian stuff. Fish, chicken and other animal products defiantly
have lot of nutrients in them. It’s often said that people taking fish from
childhood have very healthy hair and bones!
*6. Go Transparent*
– transparent symbolizes water. You must have read enough in school level about numerous advantages of drinking lots of water. It keeps B.p. normal, skin
clean and body healthy. People who sweat a lot in summers are recommended to
drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily.
*7. Stay homely**-
it’s needless and a cliché thing to say, yet highly important! Eat home made
stuff( which is low at salt, sugar, spices and oil)and avoid eating outside
as much as possible. Its not possible to eradicate it completely, but still
one can try and stick to healthy and
hygienic diet for at least 25days out of 30days!
“ A healthy mind stays in a healthy body!” eat healthy and stay happy!
Happy Eating!***
