I have a Sony DSC-P100 Digital camera from past 4years and it was working perfectly till one day the digital screen on the camera was broken from the inside and I couldn't view any pictures from the screen. The camera was still in working condition and I could take my photos by using it like a normal camera without a screen.
After I returned from a tour I went to the nearest service center of SONY located in IndraNagra bangalore. They took the camera and told me that they will send me an SMS about the estimate of the repair after 2days. On a Sunday Morning I received an SMS saying " The initial estimate is Rs16500/-".
I was shocked to receive this as a new piece in the market costs less than Rs9000/-. Hence I said Iam not intrested in getting it repaired for double the price of a new one. I was in for a shock once more as I had to shell out Rs500/- for sending me the sms.
If u want to get it repaired after ur warranty period expires, avoid going to a SONY service centre.
