When I learnt that some 'Norah Jones' had got 8 grammys, I had to hear the stuff. After all, getting 8 grammys is no small feat. But I really didn't expect this from the songs that I heard. I was expecting some recycled Britney kind of Pop music or some J'Lo crap. But 'Come Away with me' comes like a breath of fresh air amidst staleness and mediocrity.
It's a revelation - Revelation of Miss Jones' brilliance with her vocals, her composition, her piano playing and her song writing.
I haven't given all songs an ear. But just listening to 'Come away with me', 'Feeling the same way' and 'Don't know y' convinced me that Norah is really really gifted. Is it in the genes, I wonder (Norah is Pandit Ravi Shankar's first daughter and Anoushka's half sister)?
The songs on this album have a retro feel to them, like those in the 60s. It has a country and jazz touch to them. Norah has a unique timbre in her voice and seems to sing from the heart. 'Feeling the same way' is a lovely track. Just the right song to drive away those blues.
I would love to hear them while driving alone on a rainy night.
