All in all it’s good and struggling to get better.
Well, I’m not that hardcore daily soap audience, so my comments are purely based only on the shows I’ve seen or have seen others seeing it.
The point is when Colors began Sony TV, Star Plus were already the big pot players of the showbiz but Colors had a very creative team. They got their big break with Balika Vadhu, a serial which ran for long and very popularly. They were successful in gaining that one hour slot. But Sony TV owned the weekend with Comedy Circus, KBC, Entertainment k liye kuch bhi karega and Jhalak Dikhlaja. Colors tried get into the race with Bigg Boss. This was a pretty successful move. Colors competed by airing India’s Got Talent and eventually Jhalak Dikhlaja.
Then Colors played a gamble, which turned out to be its ACE game, yes you guess it right “Comedy Nights with Kapil”. I said it was gamble because, though Kapil is extremely talented but it was him against the teams of comedians. Kapil, however, proved his salt and closed everyone’s shutters. Many comedy shows including Comedy Circus went off air and with KBC not airing, Colors owned the weekends. Meanwhile, Sony got OCD with Crime Patrol and came up with geniuses like Crime Patrol, Crime Partol Satark, Crime Patrol Dastak, Crime Patrol Dial 100…. I mean seriously! The remaining few hours were filled with CID ( Scripted crime because original -crime patrol- is way too mainstream) and Telebrands. Colors became the highest TRP channel.
When Comedy Nights Bachao came Kapil moved to Sony with “The Kapil Sharma Show” and Colors has Comedy Nights Live to replace his show. Well the IGT, Bachao and Live team worked good but Kapil Sharma show aced again bringing Sony back into the race. Colors is smart, they shut down Comedy Nights Live shifted Comedy Nights bachao to avoid conflict. Then they used Jhalak Dikhlajaa and now started Bigg Boss just to compete with Sony. The struggle of Colors could now easily be seen. Sony now has shown some interest and brought in Super Dancer and will soon start Indian Idol. It is rumoured that Big B is going to comeback with KBC, but the channel is not decided yet. Whoever gets it, it’s surely end game for the other one.
Meanwhile Star plus creative team is watching Dance plus.
