I would never say that torrent is bad because its the best software to download any stuff such as software, games, movies or what ever it may be.
It even doesn't matter whether its old or new always the stuff will be ready in it but the main two problem with it is its seeds they are sometimes very few in quantity and sometime fake thing get downloaded and its really very slow in process of downloading in my home I have speed of 2 Mbps but in torrent it never exceed more that 200 Kbps these are the two main big disadvantage with it and this can be used by almost everyone and the process is very simple just download the torrent file and attach in the software and your file starts downloading.
I would recommend to download stuff of small size if your using it
