I recently completed my 10th Grade from 'Vydehi School of Excellence' and am now pursuing Grade 11 in a different school.
I was in VSE for 5 years, and initially I found it 'just fine', but since 2022, Vydehi's faculty & management has deteriorated.
There are some important issues that I as a former student would like to highlight about Vydehi-
1) The Traffic Management System -
The School Entrance Gate in the morning is very crammed, and many times the security guards do not allow cars to use the back gate. In such a situation, when there is so much traffic and no place for parking, a student is bound to be late by 3-7 minutes, especially when the management and the security team is so ignorant towards solving the issue of traffic inside the campus.
But coming late even by a minute is unacceptable for the Vydehi Management and teachers. The teachers from sharp 7:30 am onwards stand on the school entrance and write down the names of all the late-comers and make them even more late by making them stand in a line and lecturing them near the reception area. So, a student who reaches the school at 7:35 am, would ideally reach the class at 7:50. 10 minutes wasted to compensate for a 5-minute loss.
The worst part is that Vydehi's transport department and management never tried solving the traffic jam problem, and always hold the students and their parents accountable. Their only response to this query is "The Students should come early".
2) The High School Management -
The Headmistress of High School is very dominant and arrogant. Her decision is final, whatsoever. If a student or teacher suggests something(regarding - Extracurriculars, Annual Days, Sports Days, etc.), which goes against her wishes. She would rarely take into consideration; this stands true even for the most minute details. Skills & Extracurriculars are not much important to her. All students in her view are to be judged solely by their marks, and accordingly they would be liked or disliked, preferred or unpreferred by her.
3) The Academics -
Majority of the teachers I was taught by, lacked the Basic English Requirements to profess the subject. These teachers are not highly qualified as such. VSE had seemingly begun the practice of hiring not-so-qualified teachers since 2022, in order to save money. Too much emphasis on notes and less on teaching. No doubt, there are some teachers that are qualified enough and are respectful towards their students. I, as a student really liked the "High School English Department".
4) The Security Maids -
In each floor of the school, there is at least one "security maid" that is deployed. These maids are in a blue saree. The school says that "they ensure discipline amongst the students". But these security-maids are also given the liberty to barge into the student's washroom(both, boys & girls) without any justifiable reason. The students here are not respected at all.
5) Corporal Punishments -
I, as a high school student on several occasions have witnessed, teachers resorting to corporal punishments against students. Students, even for a reason, as minor as - Forgetting a textbook, are made to perform "Sit-Ups" or "Kneel Down" in front of the whole class. The students on many occasions are humiliated by the teachers. This is unjustifiable in all ways. I once witnessed a particular teacher, slapping a student too.
6) Lack of Extracurriculars/Counselling-
VSE has very little extracurricular programs for High Schoolers other than Sports. No Clubs, No Societies, etc., They have very little workshops(twice or thrice a year), and the ones they have are usually about "social awareness" and "social issues". They did not have career-counselling workshops(at least, when I was a student), they do not have a dedicated "career-counsellor" either. They host an MUN conference every year, which is no more than a money-minting gimmick. They have a sports day in which students are basically forced to participate, and are threatened with internal marks reduction, if they do not.
VSE, according to me, is highly NOT RECOMMENDED. If you, as a parent, are even a little considerate about your hard-earned money or your child's mental health, kindly DO NOT enroll your ward in VSE. It is a terrible school, especially in higher grades.
