Imminent Death of Samsung CD-RW

Ease of Installation:

People, I advice you against buying Samsung CD Writer. It's been 1 and half years I had purchased this, for Rs. 1,600/-. The first year I wasn't using it extensively, but the last six months I had been writing CD's often. Like 3 CD's a Week. Suddenly last week my CD Writer stopped sensing any CD's.

I took it to the Samsung Service Centre, and the guys there told me simply that the CD Lense is not repairable any more. The cost of replacing that is same as buying a new one. When I asked them why did this go off, they told me that 1 year is usually the lifespan of a CD Writer. But I have heard that Sony comes around 3 years of usage. The Service Guys say that people normally use the Writer to the fullest in the first year, so that even if it fails they can get the lens replaced in a years time of warranty.

Samsung is pulling the market in their favour by giving off sets for lower cost, but takes of their life span. This is bad. When I spoke with few of my hardware friends, they are strongly advising against buying a Samsung CD Writer.

It ultimately boils down, you only get the money's worth. But, it seems Samsung CD Writer is not a money's worth stuff either.
