TO THE HOT MILAGAI OF THE TOWN OF TAMILIANS.
There was no fanfare or any extensive publicity, but Radio Mirchi launched successfully in town to give their HOT taste in Chennai.
Having spent last decade in Mumbai enjoying Radio Mirchi to the full extent was missing it very badly when I moved down to Chennai. The publicity started only after it started its broadcast, but it is widely heard channel today. It is down to earth channel with the sophistication of class in Mumbai, and wish they would follow it here too and not resort to crass jokes. It airs the regional language songs all through the day with few exceptions on weekend.
I wish it would also air popular Hindi and English songs, which top the charts at least for an hour everyday.
Only time and innovation by the channel heads will tell us how long it is going to last in Chennai and not die a natural death like other FM channels in Mumbai. Just distributing hot mirchis in town may not really keep the channel alive, as the competition is perking up. New ideas to invite new listeners should be brought in where there is more interaction available between the channel and the listeners.
