I love skiing & consider myself lucky to have experienced this sport in Gulmarg.
Gulmarg, is not far from srinagar (approx.110 kms) from main srinagar city,covered by big snowy-mountains & lush green fields one feels to have landed in a paradise.
My purpose of visiting this place has always been Skiing, at the age of 7, I started learning it& just in few months I mastered this sport.
Many national &international skiing events have took place in Gulmarg,every year foriegners come to this place for skiing purpose & it has always been a great foriegn-revenue generation source for state& centre as well.
If you guys love this sport, I suggest you to visit this place & attend skiing crash course, ya..it wont cost much !
apart from skiing, you can also visit adjacent places like Tangmarg & Yusmarg (equally beautiful& exotic places).
As far as accomadation is considered you get small huts to live in(quite reasonable)!dont worry about transportation you can hire a taxi from srinagar city available at govt.rates, so what are you guys waiting for...pack ur bags &move out!
Oh I forgot to tell you but before you plan for it,just check everything is normal in Kashmir valley!oops!
