A touching love story that hit the theatres in the eighties.
Produced By RAMESH BEHL
Directed By: KAPIL KAPOOR
Music By: R. D. BURMAN
Yeh wada raha is one memorable film with rishi kapoor and the ''ohhh so adorable and angelic '' Poonam Dhillon.
So what happens when a rich boy falls head over heels in love with a beautiful orphan girl in a romantic hillstation ?
girl hesitates initially thinking rich boy may be a philanderer.
Even refuses his gift of a moti ka mala which he wins for her in some Mela.
She is Sunita a budding singer who gets an attack of stage fright and stands tongue tied on stage, when the boy Vikram grabs the mike and sings jeene ko to jeete hai sabhi, pyaar bina kaisi zindagi and gently beckons Sunita to join him and saves her from a falling grace.
*****Hearts meet and Love blossoms ******
promises are made in the temple about being steadfast in love and to live for each other. Sunita becomes a singer and Vikram finishes his studies and on her birthday they sing the hauntingly beautiful title song :tu hai wahi, dilne jise...apna kaha... (anyone seen the pathetic remix of the soulful melody where 3 girls clad in tight pink clothes disgrace the screen ???).
Anyway, back to the movie, when everything is hunky-dory something has to go wrong.
Enter mama mia Rakhee as the rich, arrogant widow (Vikram's mother) who hates Sunita for her parentless, penniless status. She tries hard to get Vikram forget her and fails in her attempts.
Vikram goes back to Sunita and they decide to get married.
They meet with a bloody accident on their way and their lives are completely changed.
Vikram suffers from minor injuries and is told by Rakhee that Sunita is dead.
Death would have been better than the state Sunita goes into
Her whole face is completely ruined and in the place of eyes, nose and lips only fleshy mass and blood remains. Anyone who sees her will die completely...of shock.
The once beautifully stunning girl is reduced to a faceless horror.
She moves away from Vikram's world as she fears he cannot live with her new gruesome existence.
Vikram is shattered and lives with Sunita's memories.
years pass
Dr. Shammi Kapoor introduces a new girl Kusum (Tina munim) to Vikram in a common party. Vikram is taken aback to hear her voice.
Once she also sings in a stage show that baffles Vikram completely.
He senses his dear Sunita's voice in hers who is dead.
There is something about Kusum, Her voice haunts him, her senses remind him of Sunita, the time he spends with Kusum reminds him so much of the past ...... but everything is so confusing.
Who is Kusum ?
how come her voice is so familiar ?
Could she be ........sunita by any chance ?
But then why doesnt she come forward to admit it and why does she look so visibly different ?
I am not telling you the secret, if you havent guessed already as its a movie to be seen and relished.
Touching music by R.D burman especially tu hai wahi and ishq mera bandagi hai
Memorable performances by Rishi, Poonam, Tina and Rakhee.
one of the best romantic movies under my list.
I still go mushy and weepy when I see this film.
