One line summery would be a humble sweet time pass.

Directors:Shyam Benegal

Shreyas Talpadeas (Mahadev)

Amrita Rao  (Kamla)

Ravi Kishan (Compounder)

Divya Dutta  (Wife of Mahadev)

Rajeshwari Sachdev (Widow)

Ila Arun           (Chachi)

Kunal Kapoor  (Banshi)

Release Date:19th Sept 08

Plot:This is a movie that is about Mahadev living in Sajjanpur a village, he is an unemployed educated guy who finds his new job as a letter writing guy.He is a notified person as he writes letters which is the only means of communication in normal indian villages.

The story line touches heart with light comedy. It is how he manages to earn his bread while rotating along his amusing job of letter writing for people as people feel if he writes a letter there work would be done as some miracle. In this there lies a plot of politics how local village politicians are trying to get vote bank, there mean ways they use and so on how Mahadev is used by them.It is about how he helps his friend to find his love.

And finally how he tries to trick his childhood crush Kamla to get seperated from his husband, finding an oppourtunity for it.But then at the end he realises his mistake by learning how much love does kamla's husband has for her.He tries to reunite them even by mortaging his farm lands. This all happenes across a small plot village rather tehseel called sajjanpur.

(I would not write whole stories in my reviews as they ruin the fun of movie). Parental Guidance:Some words are flify and very cheap that are used in the movie.I didnt expected this from benegal though while making a comedy.Better it is not be watched with children. Some words and comic scens & words created are very lousy as use of "veerya" for sperm at times. And using many double meaning words.

Soundtrack:The movie mainly has the following songs.

Sitaram Sitaram

Ek Meetha Marz De Ke

Bheeni Bheeni Mehki Mehki

Dildara Dildara

Aadmi Azaad Hai Desh

Munni Ki Baari

Music Comments:The music is good.Soothing to ears. However it is not a one time catch music  that you listen and fall in love with music. However some music events give a touch of theatre.

Overall:This movie is a good, lite comic stuff with some touch of street theatre at times. Some songs clearly indicate that specially Aadmi Azzad hai etc.It is some thing like "Jaago India Jaago stuff" with touch of comedy which is acceptable at times. How ever with use of some cheap comedy tricks it made me feel embarassed. Many clear words and dual meaning words bring cheapness though. However the movie is swift and has a good stuff to offer.Shreyas Talpadeas acting is really great, as I really expected from him, after Iqbal.Amrita is also good at playing the role of Kamla.Characters in the movie are closely knit and seem good. The scenerios made are also perfect with relevent actual rural feel. However I was expecting more from Benegal to show the face of Rural India in which I would say he has successed 80%.

Critics:The worst thing I would say is the use of cheap comedy about this movie. Then the other thing is that the camera used at times is like having some error. It seems like some shots are taken with some different camera which seems irrelevent. Some camera tricks used by Benegal are not up to the mark.Could have been a bit more better.Sudden sudden songs are useless in this movie.Specially the first one, suddenly the guy comes in very modern cloths and actress too in dreams but still it does not match with the pace of movie.

The comedy is good though but at times it seems like extra jerking comedy and scenes as I guess coming of Benegal in his film at one time. Its a useless scene.

One really bad thing about this movie is that this is not clear in which genere the director wants to keep it in.It is a comedy but at the end it suddenly looses its pace as director wants to take it to some thing related with national issue too, as if killing of ravi kishan and rajeshwari in one scene to show the rural castism in India.Simultaneously Benegal is trying to show two different themes in a same movie like priyadarshan did in Bhool Bhulaiya and unfortunatly benegal failed in it.

Rating:I would rate it 2.5 out of 5
