My father bought VW Vento Diesel Highline in year 2012; expecting a german quality product, service and assurance. Although, we drive little in past 6 years i.e. only 30000km with respect to diesel standard.

First of all normal basic service charge is about rs15000 to 20000. With each year passing by it will only increase as per their service life cycle; considering nothing breaks or wear out. If you go for bumper to bumper insurance, keep aside average rs30000 a year, although which will decrease as year pass by; as value of car will depreciate over year; but make no mistake it will depreciate to rs 10000 or so. It will attain saturation at around rs20000. So, in short an expenditure of rs 40000 per year; even if you do not drive your car at all.

Apart from all above mentioned common sense usual expenditure, which I pretty sure; a buyer must be having prior knoweledge. Now, comes our experience of the vehicle and their so called prestigeous brand. Within, 15000 km: 2 years; vw authorised service center recommended replacement of all fuel injector and clutch plate. Next year recommended replacement of gear unit, till then we sent money on glowplug& after service abs indicator also failed. Cost of repairs all mentioned repairs is very high. And as per my study& investigation, in most of the case, their fuel injector are replaced within few years. Might be it's a manufacturing defect or just a scam to con customers like they did with their fuel immission& paid billions of$ to US goverment for settlement of the case like blood money.

Overall, don't buy VW vehicle in India;(can't comment on their service abroad) if you have hard earned money. Finally, I would like to quote great Winston Churchill in this regard, "Financially it is ruinous. Morally they are wicked. But, if you have plenty of money or buying a car is like a penny spent then it is an open question, and for middle class it is a blunder.”
