For a moment, I thought it was another fly by night operator which works similar to the sluggish irtc. But it has proved me completely wrong. After reading Vijayalakshmi’s rev, I was wondering whether to try this one out to save time. Then I took a plunge for good.

Gone are the days when you have to go searching for the travel agents or chuck it out at the Ticket Counters at the Airport when at least there were only three to vouch for-Indian Airlines, Jet airways and Air Sahara. Imagine running between ten counters of different flight operators trying to get the best price and time for your journey, you will always end up booking the wrong Airline and keep cribbing that you lost few thousands because you wish you knew.

The same process had to be followed on the net for all these days trying to open all the airline pages simultaneously to check for times and fares. The cumbersome process becomes sluggish for two reasons-the net speed falls off and some of the airlines need log in. The IE 7 just helps in using tabs which only sooths the eye. Some of the websites of Airlines give you dadkhan even before getting on AIR because it takes your time and effort and when you finally want to generate ticket, you end up with multiple booking on same airline.

Instant ticketing made easy

The first thing you notice with FlightRaja is that they have taken a Cap out of our AIR INDIA(The famous Maharaja of Air India in the eyes of Artist Umesh Rao looks royal, but not the airline) and feather out of some US companies like Expedia and Priceline.

The key to a multi airline ticketing is to keep the site as simple as few clicks of a mouse and not go the way we chase the tiny fellow who takes the brains out of us at home.

Flightraja’s tag line remains instant ticketing and the approximate time it has taken for me to book some 8 tickets till now has been less than 90 seconds including credit card payment and generation of ticket. The front page is all Red in Eveready style with an instant attraction of

“Book your cheapest Flight”, “Fly for Rs 7* “and “Spicejet @ 0.99* “.

You cannot blame them just because Road side Beggar does not accept Rs 0.99 anymore. The* is used liberally for us to use the verbose. That’s it and don’t even think that you are in for an air treat for Rs 7/- .Better way is to write funky revs in MS, baba style and get permanent free seat on FlightRaja.

Once you pick your date and destination, the next page scrolls in the order of Fares( in 5 sec on BB)  and you have to just decide on the flight which suits your time. Give your e mail id and very basic details to get your instant ticket. If you want round trip, you can just book all in one go. The important thing is that it works similar to Google auto fill the next time you want to book and you need not bother to shatter more keys.(PrasTM)

mTKT- Just an sms away

*If you are Hutch user, booking cheap flights is just and SMS away(6858). But remember to add that Rs 3.00 to the 0.99 plus fuel surcharge of Rs 750 plus Fess and Taxes. Fees and Taxes will obey laws of Inverse Taxation in Mathalogic which you would never have heard of)

For me a tkt in hand is worth two on the SMS and rely on the Net Ticket printed out (I am yet to try mTKT)

*Cancelling Tickets-Where is the Page?

*This is one feature that Flight Raja hid under its cap and you have to make a call to their assistance and get refund credited back.

*How it fares with peers?

*The comparative speeds of search on FR and REDIFF are just the same, but the page scroll and the search options are much higher on FR. For a simple search from Hyderabad to Mumbai-It gave 18 options compared to 11 on Rediff. Moreover the round trip tkt on Rediff gives the combined lowest fare compared to individual sector fares, which is a distinct advantage on FR.

The most important thing is that FR has wider airline operators and sectors in its basket- Indian airlines, AIR INDIA, Go Air, Indigo, Jet airways, Paramount, AD, Kingfisher, Air Sahara & Spice Jet. Rediff has edge with booking options of Hotels and International Flights.India-Times auctions is a far cry from these two sites.

FlightRaja has been courteous and patient with my repeated change of plans for my MS air ticket only that it needed a three week advance booking which I normally don’t. Phone booking is quick and easy compared to many other individual airlines if you are making multi bookings for group of Business.

I would like to congratulate all the winners of Flight Raja tickets as it has given great opportunity for MSians to reach skies.

Thanks for reading.
