It is a heartwarming slice-of-life flick which exudes warmth and will instantly form a connect between audience and movie characters. The makers might have had a commercial motive of cashing on such feelings, but I would still give it to them for doing it from their heart. Even after discounting my review which, I agree, is biased from emotional perspective, the movie is highly recommended for people who, like me, savour such sensitive stuff. Others might still go for it to appreciate good acting and enjoy family bonding! The movie marks the return of Priyanka Chopra Jonas to Bollywood. The confident and fiery actress has made a mark for herself nationally and internationally. Glad to see her back in Indian cinema. Her teaming up with suave Farhan Akhtar is an added bonus. Their chemistry rocked in Dil Dhadakne Do. So this time it shouldn’t be any different either. The Sky Is Pink is a real life story of Delhi based Chaudhary family who lost two of their three children, Tanya and Aisha, at tender age of 6 months and 18 years respectively. Parents Niren ( Farhan Akhtar) and Aditi ( Priyanka Chopra) had a rare genetic condition which got passed to their daughters as a life threatening disease called SCID ( Severe Combined Immunodeficiency) . While they couldn’t get proper treatment done for their elder daughter they didn’t leave any stone unturned for Aisha ( Zaira Wasim) . The family overcame financial problems, marital discord, long distance relationship etc. to provide best medical facility for Aisha in London. But as destiny would have it, just when they thought the worst was over, tragedy struck again when Aisha got diagnosed with a lung disease which she ultimately couldn’t survive. Every good movie has at least one strong aspect which holds the audience to their seats and the “hero” of this film is EMOTION. It has many such delicate moments which’ll make the audience teary-eyed. Director tried to break the monotonicity by interspersing romance and fun quotient but that couldn’t overpower the underlying poignant theme. The movie scores high on most of the other factors too. Music is apt. The screenplay and editing is astute, especially the way story oscillates between three decades starting from 1990’s. Seamless, without a hitch! Farhan and Priyanka have done a fantabulous job. The film demanded intense acting and these guys really scored high on it. Farhan spoke more with his body language and expressions than words and Priyanka aced her part as a perfect mother who is hypersensitive, rather paranoid, when it came to her child’s health. Zaira Wasim also successfully pulled off a difficult role wherein she had to show maturity of a person who knows she is about to die, yet behave like a normal teenager. I can vouch that safety and well being of children is of paramount importance for every parent. Even a faint thought of losing your precious little can send jitters down the spine. Imagine the mental state of a father & mother who has actually seen their child die infront of them. The agony can’t be explained in words. How their lives revolve around the unwell child, trying to give him/her a normal upbringing by often wearing a happy mask on a forlorn face. Making adjustments in their daily routine which eventually becomes a nondescript habit over time. Also ensuring the other sibling is not neglected in any manner. They eventually get so obsessed with the child that after his/her departure there’s a terse void in their life, akin to missing a purpose for existence, which never gets filled. The Sky Is Pink is about this facet of someone’s life.
