The Forum, when I first saw it in 2005, was a landmark. It was unlike anything Bangalore had ever seen before. A place buzzing with activity, a place so modern for that era. It became an instant hit with shoppers and visitors alike. Sitting outside Forum at evening, enjoying the weather became an activity on the must-do list of several youngsters and it wasn't long before the Forum was top on the list of hangouts for many. Hip food joints and PVR added to the hangout value of the place.

However, this place was not designed to cope up with the level of attention and the kind of footfall it saw. today, it has become one of the most congested malls in the city. Weekends get very stuffy and suffocating. There is almost no walking space, people would be jostling you from all sides while walking. There are stalls put up all over the ground floor displaying like cars, motorcycles and what not. Do buyers really need to see Mahindra's latest SUV inside Bangalore's most congested mall while people barely get space to walk? Did I mention the restrooms yet? Unclean, stinking and lacking even the basic amenities, its the kind of stuff you'd expect in municipal buildings, not inside premium malls. There are a set of two escalators on each floor and most of the time, one set would be malfunctional. Maintenance is very poor for the entire building.

The overall environment now feels more like a fishmarket. Noisy, cramped, suffocating. Sure, it is within easy reach for residents of south Bangalore, but it is no longer a place where you'd feel good. Got a movie to catch, PVR will do it for you, but otherwise you'd do good to head elsewhere.
