After looking through many websites about various digital cameras, I wanted a digital camera which has a minimum of 3.2 Megapixels, 3X optical zoom,Video Capture, good TFT screen and solid build. I zoomed in on the Sony Cybershot series for which I read some rave reviews on many websites about its ease of use and plethora of features. Most importantly I had a budget of 15K Rs. And I finally got the Sony CyberShot DSC-P73.

  1. 4.1 Megapixel Camera with Carl Zeiss optics (Supposed to be the best in optical lenses)

  2. 3X Optical Zoom, 3X Smart Zoom (similar to digital zoom)

  3. Multi-Shot burst mode,Landscape/Potrait Mode

  4. Macro Mode for close-up shots

  5. Video Capture with Audio at 640 x 480 (Limited only by the memory)

  6. Storage medium is the Memory Stick (available in various sizes)

  7. Comes with 2 Rechargeable AA batteries and a charger.

  8. USB2 and PictBridge compatible (Directly connect to a printer)

  9. Real Imaging Processor.

The Flash is awesome to say the least as it can bright up a entire room. There are various picture sizes which can be set and the image to be shot is easily viewable in a 3.8 cms TFT screen. The Jog-Dial on the top brings the various options on the LCD screen and the images and videos stored can be previewed in the LCD screen. There is also option to zoom into the images.

The package consists of a USB cable and a CD which is easily installed in a PC. Just plug in the cable in the USB port and all the images are automatically transferred to the hard disc by the 'Image Transfer' software. There are also options to write the Images to the CD and edit them in the PC.

The package comes with a 16MB Sony memory stick so we have to buy a larger capacity memory stick and this is a costly affair as memory sticks are costlier than MMC or SD cards. And the 2 AA batteries are a double edged sword, one when they are drained out you can buy any AA batteries which is great when you are outdoors but the downside is that they have to be taken out of the camera to be recharged.

The photos taken with it comes at a 72 DPI (resolution) only when compared to a Nikon 3200 which takes pictures at a 200 DPI (resolution).

For those looking at a Point & Shoot camera with extra features DSC-P73 is the best buy may be closely followed by Nikon 3200.
