How to become successful in today’s volatile competitive environment where survival of the fittest rule dominates. How to develop that extra-punch for success? How to keep track of self-development? These questions must have clouded your mind now and then and whenever I have such delimmas I go and talk to my parents , friends to guide me….but I have always listened to my “self” …..why?? as I believe ''No human being can be educated by someone else. He must do it himself or it will never be done.''

What comes in your mind when you think of the two words pinned together-Self-Development? Do you visualize it as reaching new heights in the corporate ladder? Or upgrading your skills? Or becoming Self-Aware? It could be anything? But for me this word is about becoming Self-Concious or Self-Aware to do best at what I want to do.

If someone tells you that you need to develop or improve yourself in this area, you would probably tell them to “Mind their own business”!! It happens but it is from here your self-development starts as you seems to be more willing to shed your old skin and rejuvenates yourself.

Ever thought of Building a castle of successful life through sands of hope, dream, faith!!

Remember ''There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.''

Q.Why Self-Development is important?

A. To maintain balance in Personal,Professional,Social,Intellectual and Spiritual self.

Remember , seven stairs of self-development –

  1. Analyse your Weaknesses and Strengths.

  2. Accept your weaknesses and build your positives.

  3. Own responsibility for pitfalls.

  4. keep relearning as knowledge is that pane of glass which needs cleaning everyday.

  5. Believe in yourself.

  6. Avoid Thumbsuckers, Complainers. Remember GIGO(Garbage in,Garbage out) principle .

  7. Turning your Dreams into goals and Goals into Reality requires proper planning and commitment to goals.

· There exist close relationship between self-development and self-esteem so develop positive attitude toward self and others.

· Self-conciousness leads to discouragement so if you feel you are discouraged or self-conciousness then try to boost your self-confidence . Cultivate spirit of positive self criticism.

· Challenge your goals …..for growth and shed conventional boundaries to dreams and hopes .

· Don’t ruin your self-image: if you feel assured “you are no good in life” you will be lost…

· Believe in Freedom of mind

· Being the best:

Your Affirmation should be “I have to give my cent percent to my work”.

Remember songs like-“Am the best”(Phir bhi dil hai Hindustani) and Chand taare tod (yes boss)

Whenever Iam work-stressed or feel discourged in life situations I simply follows Mantra that my mother has taught me that is “ to live happily by accepting limitations of my nature and building my abilities.”

· Dancing with fear: I believe that there are two important things that compelled you to act one is greed and another is fear of losing reputation.

· Procrastination is an adverse ally of Goals. Never say “I Quit”

· Build your emotional intelligence to fight diverse situations .Be self-motivated!! I read good quotes, collect them, hang posters in my room, like bookmarks with quotes.

· What’s your Self-projection ?? ask yourself .Develop habit to communicate with consequences.

· Develop INTERPERSONAL SENSITIVITY at work-place.

· Enagaged in Mind control relaxation excercises to trap mental energy. It’s spiritual development.i found deep breathing exercises and yoga useful.

· Self-development is a Dynamic concept so develop adaptability ….in life course.

· IDENTIFY YOUR CHARACTER TRAIT. Are you MR./Ms. Achiever,Fearful, Doubt,Exhibitionist,Sufferer or Loser ????

· BEGIN TODAY AS TODAY’S YESTERDAY TOMMORROW. Ask “Who am I called to be today as a person at my work place or in life” ?

· Learning aids in development, while development encourages further learning. So keep learning .As this is a crux of overall development viz-personal,mental, and spiritual.

· It's never too late. Begin it now.

· The beautiful truth is, you evolve yourself.Nobody can do it for you.

Do self-analysis.

· Shed self-doubts and reasoned with your doubts. Ask “why I can’t do this thing .Do I have insufficient money, time, ability ”?? What about those who are less fortunate than me but despite their numerous hardships and barriers they achieve what they want. The list of such persons goes on and on.Don’t be skeptical about your abilities.

You have to see what helps in your self-development and what harms.Reject anything that is suffocated to your self-development.

· Avoid reading books or materials which blocked self-development. As our thoughts are colored by these irrelevant things.

Having Mentor:

My biggest realization of importace of self-development came when I passed my 12th standard and faced delimmas in choosing right career for me. My parents get me counseled with one career-counsellor and that discussion proved useful as I thereafter became self-aware and try to get rid of my inhibitions or mental stubbornness to accept my weaknesses like-I used to speak little, I am…..very stubborn about my thoughts… room for compromise…..sigh….but as I have decided to go for communication line so these negatives were going to outshadowed my positives at my work-place……She advised me to read books on self-improvement,attend workshops , seminars to improve my body-language and self-control…..i did what she told me…..iam happy with myself today.

Inhibitors to self-development are Stereotypes, the Halo effect, Closed Mind, Self-fulfilling Prophecy. Try to get rid of them at any cost.

Shed dogmatic views. Remember the maze of your life is self-constructed. You don't have to solve the maze, rather, it dissolves in the basic realization of who you are.

Remember ''Success is not to be pursued;

it is to be attracted by the person you become.''

  • Jim Rohn

“ I know that all my visualizations, wishes, affirmations, goals and prayers will come true.”

Self development=Self-confidence=self-esteem=self-respect,self-reliance=self-awarenes

Do you know the meanings of these terms?
