A Gripping Movie!

Star Wars, in the recent times, has lost its sheen a bit. The formulaic story, inadequately developed characters and a reliance on heavy action scenes have not boded well with this franchise. However, Rogue One has managed to stem this trend to a certain extent.

Gareth Edwards helms the reins of the movie as its director and we have a stunning Felicity Jones playing the character of Jyn Erso in the movie. She plans to steal the plans of a vicious Death Star. She is supported by her band of rebel spies, which includes Cassian Andor( Diego Luna), a blind warrior monk Chirrut Imwe( Donnie Yen), a renegade pilot Bodhi Rook( Riz Ahmed) and an extremely witty droid K-2SO( voiced by Alan Tudyk).  Death Star is the brainchild of the head of the evil Galactic Empire played by Ben Mendelsohn and the director of the Research Head Orson Krennic. This rebel group wars with the Galactic Empire and wants to destroy their weapons, which can bring doom to the entire universe. Whether the rebel group is able to succeed in their plans or not remains to be seen.

The movie has complex characters with witty dialogues, especially K-2SO keeps on imparting wisdom in its own unique style. The movie sometimes feels like a typical Western war movie with bonding between the rebel members and a difference in their opinions leading to chaos. Felicity Jones is compelling as Jyn and she binds the narrative together. Ben Mandelsohn is terrific as the villian of the piece and other supporting cast too has pitched in well in the movie.

The visual effects are stunning, however, it is the story of the movie that engages the audience. Unlike previous Star Wars movie, Rogue One has a compelling and complex story with the usual theme of hope that pervades almost every Star Wars movie. I would give this movie 4 out of 5 stars. Go for it!
