If you are planning a trip to mysore, this is a best place to start with. It is located in Mandya district, near Srirangapatna.

The best season to visit is around October when the rains are subsided and boating is open  as well as there will be lots of bird species to look around.

Boating is the best part of this sanctuary.

I have been to Ranganthittu more than 3 times, 2 times around September, once in Jan and twice around august.

Crocodiles come to bask in sun and you can find lot of them in different sizes. You are advised not to put your hand in water as it will be dangerous if a croc is very near to you and you may not notice it. The view of the birds is beautiful! The trees look completely white as though there are giant flowers on them, when you watch from far without binoculars. You can take amazing pictures of the birds when you go boating and even in the sanctuary, there are beautiful fruit trees where you can see varieties of birds residing and they have put up posts where you read about the birds which come there by migration, their habitat, the time of the year they visit etc., .

This is a wonderful place to relax and for a picnic. Bird watching in early mornings and dusk is really fun and if you are lucky enough, you might find  rare bird! It will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and it is ideal to be there by that time, if you are bird lovers and would like to watch birds.

There is Salim ali interpretation centre, where they show documentaries of birds. it's very nice to watch. I'm not sure if everybody are allowed, we had been there when we had been from college.

The sad part is there is no lodging in the sanctuary, so you will have to stay in some place in srirangpatna if you are planning to visit the sanctuary earl yin the morning.

I would sure recommend this place to all bird lovers as there are birds migrating from different countries as well to this place.
