We went there during the Ugadi weekend to get away from the routine and bustling city life. Rain Country is an ideal place to just chill and relax your mind, body and soul (they only offer Kerala Ayurvedic massage and not a spa or wellness).

The place is surrounded by hills and greenery with chirping birds absorbs you into the quietness and tranquility. Cottages built in Kerala architecture are equipped with electricity, hot water, comfortable beds, storage and television. They do not have phones in the cottage. The resort has a natural pool with fishes in it and three geese that come in the evenings to swim. Food is awesome and feels like home as they ask your preference for lunch or dinner and prepare what you want and serve it either at the dining cottage or in your room along with herbal water.

However, as we woke up the next morning, we only heard blaring noises of a large group of college students from Tamil Nadu behaving like untamed hooligans, jumping into the pool (not meant for swimming) and creating a ruckus. The tranquility was lost!

Because of the large group, the home-like atmosphere at the dining space and food prepared as per your choice was not there anymore. It was a buffet and looked like any other restaurant we go to. They were hanging around everywhere and we did not feel like we had come for a weekend getaway.

There was more in store for us. Blaring music with a campfire in the evening and the uncivilized group of teenagers dancing to Tamil and Bollywood tunes till 10 pm. What's surprising is that the resort management was encouraging this and did not stop them from anything. When we asked the Manager, he said, "What can we do. it is a weekend and we usually do not get such large groups. They will go back tomorrow."

Once the group left the next day, it was back to normal. We were served our choice of food and the personalized service was restored. However, it was time for us to go. We stayed back till lunch and left the place. The drive back home was very tedious.

If you're going with friends and want to relax in the evening with some drink, it is better to carry your own booze as the resort does not store liquor. They will get it from the market and charge Rs. 300 extra for transport if you order at the resort.

Also, if you're planning to go there this month, be prepared to be stopped by cops who are stopping and checking all the vehicles as part of the election duty. Better to carry your vehicle documents and license with you. You might spot some deer, monkeys and elephants in Bandipur forest during the drive in the evening(around 5 pm).

Suggestions to the management of Rain Country Resorts:

  1. Never allow anybody to get into the pool and play with water (the water is not clean) as the pool has fishes and geese come to swim. Please do not let anybody misuse the place and the resources.

  2. Please consider other guests also when you entertain large groups as it is important to profile the guests. The quality of guests coming to your resort will determine the positioning and the kind of customers you want to attract. You may want to inform your travel agents also about the same.

  3. It is better to avoid large groups(10 people and above) though that means letting go of a lump-some amount.

Have a great vacation and drive safe!

Cheers!
