In 1969, came a Charlie Croker (Michael Caine), who made a great plan to rob gold from a moving convoy going from China to Turin, after the death of his good friend and he assemble a team of experts to do this, but they're not alone, Italian Mafia is behind them. Then in 2003, came another Charlie Croker (Mark Wahlberg), who made a great plan to rob gold from a house in Venice, but after robbing, one of his good friend double cross them and take away all the gold, leaving everybody behind injured, and then after 1 year Charlie again made a great plan to rob back their gold from the double-crosser friend. Here, exactly after 8.5 years, came another Charlie Mascrenehas (Abhishek Bachchan), who made a great plan to rob gold from a moving train going from Russia to Romania after the death of his good friend and he assemble a team of experts to do this, but after robbing, one of his good friend double cross them and take away all the gold, leaving everybody behind injured, and then after 1 year Charlie again made a great plan to rob back their gold from the double-crosser friend. This time that Charlie assembles the team of experts comprising of magician Ronnie (Bobby Deol), girlfriend Riya (Bipasha Basu), computer hacker Spider (Neil Nitin Mukesh), explosives expert Bilal Bashir (Sikander Kher), and makeup artist Sunny (Omi Vaidya), the cast's introduction, and roles quite similar to the 2003 team. And they did take help of their godfather Victor (Vinod Khanna), whose daughter also become the part of 2nd robbery, and she's also a computer hacker Naina Braganza (Sonam Kapoor). Godfather meeting is similar to 1969 movie, and rest including killing of godfather and his daughter's taking part in 2nd heist similar to 2003 movie. So, this is really an official remake, with totally matched plot-line, yes screenplay is different, it has to be, Bollywood need songs, it needs emotions, it needs Bollywoodness, so Abbas-Mustan provided it, which extract soul from the originals, and execution + direction is also affected.

For the person who have not seen any of the two previous installations, they may like it, but for the person who was well aware of the cinematic art offered before, will certainly watch this movie with the analyzometer spects. So did I! But I was not expecting too much from it, due to lack of promotion, so sometime, in bits and pieces, I liked it, and was amazed that hmm, bollywood can make remakes, and it's good that Abbas-Mustan declared it an official remake, because then presenting this story, which is similar to the core, can invite allegations, which will then result in more downfall of image. Let's talk about the director-duo, I don't know why they decided to do a remake this time, may be it's the season's effects :P, he had given us many great thrillers (they're known for it) like Baazigar, Soldier, Ajnabee, Humraaz, and Race. But this one can be said a weak from their armour, no no, it's not as weak as Naqaab, Thank God! I was literally thinking about that one in the first half. Direction dips here, God! it's really too hard to get acting from Sonam Kapoor! If Abbas-Mustan can't do it, nobody else can. Rest bad performers are for sure, plain-faced Bobby Deol and Abhishek Bachchan. Even Vinod Khanna looked bad. Abbas-Mustan didn't find a better actor for Charlie's role! Sikander was okay, in some scenes looks good, Omi was comic, and a nice and better actor (may be we like him more because of '3 Idiots'). Bipasha was ignorable, nothing great from her, but the best of lot is our Johnny Gaddar Neil Nitin Mukesh, the guy has talent, hence getting quite same kind of role, and it is when he is performing best. He looks innocent but canny. But you could find Abbas-Mustan in film, their signature is there in terms of twists in tales, screenplay (Rohit Jugraj, Sudip Sharma) provides it as per the plot copied. But at many places, movie got slow, and many loopholes crept in, editing (Hussain Burmawala) can be tight. Background score (Sandeep Shirodkar) was okay, cinematography (Ravi Yadav) is good, because of which many scenes become great. Let us first discuss loopholes. Train Robbery scene, a train is on adjacent lines, running in the same speed, and soldiers in the other train can't feel it (They can't see it, since on their train windows, something else was projected, but come-on, train is not a bicycle, you'll certainly feel it and what about the voice factor, if it's running with a boosted-engine. And nobody tracked that 2nd train, oh comeon, it's not a road, it's railway. How come a train just pass like that. The fight sequence before intermission is quite a bollywood touch, it should be made better. The scene when Abhishek aka Charlie enter the traitor's house was so ordinary, so easily he break up all security systems, worth crores of rupees. Some good scenes like train robbery sequence, climax car-chasing sequence. The part where they replace the Russian general with Abhishek Bachchan was good, technically very correct, I liked the execution. Johnny Lever's comedy in 2nd half comes good. 1st half was bad, but 2nd half make for it. The set/house which was made as villain's house was very under-prepared, it should not look like a Bollywood set-up, but like a real Wellington Palace, but it looks exactly like the set-up. Ohh Please! Don't talk about songs and music, as I didn't find anything to mention. Bad album, bad music by Pritam. Only 1 song was just okay (Buddhi Do Bhagwan) sung by Abhishek Bachchan and Shruti Pathak.

The 2003 movie was more on technical aspect which was good for me, but here many things are ignored, may be good, as Indian viewers will like more of emotions but they're not much into technicalities. The introduction of all the characters were lacking style, unlike the 2003 make, which was as stylish but okay, give a pass. May be you can like it, may be you don't but my take, can be watched once, ignore some loopholes. My take 3/5.
