I am talking about the perfect prototype of a Complete Man (courtsey Raymonds) - ShahRukh in ''Pardes''.This is not one of those ''All is White or All is Black'' films like ''Purab Paschim'' by Manoj Kumar or Mother India... Its today's film of today's people, in today's times.Ofcoarse, things have been taken to extremes to make a point...But so what? Does'nt one do that in an argument, to make a point (in this case, make a statement)? One always goes to the extremes while arguing, so that the opponent settles somewhere midway, just WHERE you want him! So lets forget the extremes, and if you may, even the storyline. It is SHAH RUKH's superb portrayal that has made this film memorable for me.

His ''Darr, Dil hai Hindustani, Dil Se, Mohhabatein..'' are nothing compared to his acting in Pardes. For most part of the film he hardly spoke. A silent spectator to the goings-on around him, his suppressed love, concern and care for Mahima without once exposing his feelings. Not even ever trying to advise her, just going along with her happiness but always being around should she need him, was JUST GREAT.(Boy, and did she need him, and how!!Mahima too has done some great acting, considering that it was her first film.)Even in complete silence SHAH RUKH's face spoke volumes, so did his smile. Even his final outburst was done with such restraint, keeping in mind his position, his limitations and his great respect for his peers. I think this was a very difficult and challenging role. You must see the film to believe your eyes.
