Hi people, this is my first review on mouthshut, so please bare with me if I have done any injustice to the stature of a reputed site like mouthshut.

Let me get to the point, I have to agree that before going to the movie I was a little skepticle on whether shahrukh khan would keep the originality to the character, and in short I thought he would look slightly artificial. Well was I proven wrong or what....

Story

This is one of the most different stories I have seen in a bollywood movie in a very long time.. it is highly original and is enlightening to see that finally someone is stepping up and not coping from hollywood. Even though the idea is from a novel, one must sense that after all the novel itself is a product of India.. and looks at our Tradition and values.

Performances

What can I say about the performances.. they are just out of this world. The lead pair of the movie, SRK and RANI have given the movie a life. Anupum Kher is not any far behind also. Juhi Chawla is OK and Amitabh Bachchan enertains in a short and sweet role. Rajpal Yadav doesnt get much scope. Shahrukh Khan has handeled the double role beautifully.

Technicalities

I think after Koi mil gaya and Black, This is one of the best movies technically. the camera work by Ravi Chandran is brilliant and the special effects is also very realistic looking. Shahrukh as a producer has taken care of every aspect with fine detail. The direction is not any far behind. Amol Palekar has broken a mold as a director and has proven that there is no such thing as parallel cinema or commercial cinema. People make movies and movies are either bad or good. And this one I must say is a Masterpiece.. very very different indeed.

Faults

No movie is perfect in any sense. This one too isnt perfect but the faults are very minor so it doesnt seem like a big deal. The movie is a bit slow at places and moves very slow in the 1st half but this kind of movie..I believe cant be fast like DHOOM or MAIN HOON NA it is more at a pace as SWADES was.. but far more entertaining I might add..

Overall the movie is sure to touch many hearts as it deals with the emancipation of women... nice movie.
