Booked the car in sundaram, bangalore... waited for 2 weeks... then got this black beauty.

So far the car has been behaving really good.

Cons: Opel Corsa is a Costly car. Generation Old engine. Tight gear shift. Engine rev sound inside the cabin. power steering feels bit heavy.

pros : Nice handling. Reasonable mileage. Very good pick up @ 2nd and 3rd gears. Good silent suspension. Nice solid body. Good high quality interiors. Spacious boot. Comfortable seat.

In detail...

Cons:

Costly car. U will get a fully loaded sport model palio with alloy wheels for 40k less(if u can live with its sluggish pick up). Here in bangalore its as costly as flair or esteem. A family man should def go for either of them.

Engine: Its a old gen engine. This 1.6 engine was used in europe in 1996??? Still no one gives 92bhp at this price.

Tight gear: The gear change is bit tight. That too down shift is really tight. reason : New car?? Where as a new palio was pretty easy to change gears!!

Update Nov,10,04

After 4k kms, the gear has kind of eased off now. But shifting at high rpm, u feel some amount of vibration at the shaft.

Engine noise: Can hear the engine clearly in the cabin. That too in high rev, the engine is very noisy.

Steering is bit tight. This is a hydrualic one. Where as electronic PS in palio was a breeze.

Cons:

Turning corners at high speed was pretty good. Very comfortable doing them.

Update Nov,10,04

Used take the u-turn at manipal hospital signal. Just before taking the turn, engage in 2nd gear, lock the steering fully to the right side, take quarter of the turn, and then press the gas(as much u want!!!). Get out of the turn completely, engage in 3rd and zoom off... Pretty simple task with this car. no wobble, no under steer, no over steer nothing. That with stock bridgestone s322 175/70 R13 tyres.

Mileage. In bangalore traffic. bumper to bumper, mostly in 2,3 gears with AC on 50% time... getting 9-10kmpl.

Pick up: With or with out AC is terrific.

Suspension : They r quite and breeze thru pothole roads. Thats with a 13'' tyres. Might get slightly bumpy with 14'' low profile ones.

Sloid body: Once a school van hit behind the rear wheels. Heard a big thud. But no dent.. but a deep scratch. any maruti would a big dent.

Interiors : 2004 1.6 model has some amount of woodish finish for the central A/C console. rest of the interiors were much much better than palio. Boot is lot more spacious for a small car.

Update Nov,10,04.

Done 2 highway drive so far.

First was to hogenakal.

FE 16.

Dist covered 400(approx)

Second was to coimbatore.

FE 13.

Dist covered 1000(approx)

Long dist drive is fantastic. Over taking was a sheer pleasure. At the end of 5 hour drive, a 60 year old lady on the back seat, felt absolutely comfortable.

Suspension quality is very good. Very quite. Pot holes were dismissed pretty comfortably.

A sudden zigzag at around 80+, to avoid potholes, created a kind of wobble and rolling kind of effect. Need a low profile tyre??

Lately, noticing a strange behavior. During the early morning start, the RPM meter shoots to 2k. Engine revs up. Then settled down to 1200, and finally rests at 1k when engaged to 1st or reverse gear. Will report what is the problem once it?s fixed.

Update 29/11: Looks like this rev up is common in all the mpfi engines. In carbs during the early morning start, u manually do this rev up. In mpfi, the ecu, detects the cold start and automatically does it.
