The C6-01 is a well built and sturdy phone. Probably the last of its kind. After this, Nokia sort of stopped bothering with Symbian and moved onto windows mobile. The small size of the C6 is in direct contrast to the huge smartphones that are being made today.

The C6-01 comes with a 3.2 inch 640x360 nHD resolution AMOLED screen with capacitive touch screen. The Clear Black Display reduces screen reflections and boosts the screen contrast. As a bonus, this CBD display helps boost battery life. The C6-01 comes equipped with GPS and OVI maps. It also has an 8MP camera with face detection software and comes with a twin LED flash. The Nokia C6-01 captures video at 3 resolutions - HD, VGA and very low resolution for multimedia messaging, with its HD 720p capture recording at 25fps.The external buttons are volume control, key lock, camera with the menu and call buttons below the screen.

At the time of buying, I think beginning of 2011, don’t remember exactly, this phones was an unbelievable piece of tech. It cost around 13, 000 at that time and had the latest Symbian OS, was almost the same size as the n95 and with the metal body, looked indestructible. It was an excellent mid-range phone which came with an Ambient light sensor and great pixel density. The small screen size makes it easier and faster to use, since the entire screen is accessible by your thumb when the device is in your hand. All the ports are located on the bottom end of the device, so the headphone socket feels awkward. The speakerphone is really good and so is the call clarity.

The 680MHz ARM 11 processor does a good job of making everything run smoothly and the Nokia C6-01 is excellent in areas like video playback(due to great codec support). With 8GB of on-board memory and expandable memory up to another 32GB via microSD, the Nokia C6-01 has considerable media potential, however, the screen's a bit small to get you truly immersed in a video.

The battery life is a slight issue. Under normal use i.e. checking emails, random browsing, an hour of calling and using skype, the battery would last for a day. But as WhatsApp started getting more prominent, Wi-Fi would have to be on for extended periods of time and that would lead the battery to run out in about 16 to 17 hours. The battery being used was not particularly big and only held 1050 mAh which in my opinion was not sufficient for a smartphone of its capabilities.

Anyone with remotely big hands should steer clear of this phone in fear of frustration when typing a text message with the on screen QWERTY. The on-screen keys are small and the capacitive screen isn't accurate, resulting in repeat failed attempts.

Symbian’s web browser was pathetic and Nokia never really got around to fixing it. Web pages load accurately enough, however, stutter when swiping around, especially on larger pages. This can be resolved by installing Opera Mobile App, though it's a shame the OS doesn't offer a competitive browser as standard.

It’s a pretty good device and I was surprised by all the negative reviews I have seen on this phone. In the 4 years my Dad had been using it, he was very satisfied with its features and performance. The only reason he upgraded a few months back to a Lumia 535 was because Microsoft decided to discontinue SKYPE for Symbian mobiles, a clever ploy on their part to make all the Nokia loyalists to switch to new MICROSOFT devices. I can’t find any other valid reason why a software that was running fine till now suddenly stopped working.

The Nokia C6-01 might be an ideal compact phone if you have very small hands and want a versatile handset without a large screen at a good price.
