Raja: Yesterday you gave me a name , which actually a husband gives to his wife ?.and It saved my life.
Meenakshi: lets talk about something else ?something pleasant
I will talk about two aspects of the movie
1. The most unusual and oddest love story
2.The Message
The love story
Let me start from the last scene.
Venue : Railway Platform
Character: Meenakshi iyer with her nine month old son santanam.
Jahangir ahmed alias raja( a freelance photographer).
Mani iyer (meenakshi?s husband).
The scene goes like this?
Meenakshi iyer introduce raja to her husband mani iyer and tell how he helped her throughout the journey . Mr. Mani Iyer though a bit shocked by the news that raja is a muslim ,still thank him for helping out Meenakshi.
Mani Iyer get busy on phone and raja ask their permission and leave .
Ahhh ! and there you see Meenakshi with a look in her watery eyes ?a look which is full of pain , heart ache , need , plead? a look of losing something very important ?a look which without saying a single word , without sharing a kiss or any other physical gesture still confirms the chemistry between this oddest couple ever( odd by each and every means) .That unheard and unspoken but still unmistakable expression of love can be felt in its entirety.
All of a sudden raja returns ,take out the camera roll which contains photos of Meenakshi during the journey ,give it to Meenakshi and say Good Bye ?Meenakshi(for the first time he pronounced the name correctly by putting stress on double E)
Meenakshi replies : Good Bye?.. Mr. Iyer
Thus ends one great movie . Did my heart ache ???? Of course it did yaar, and I bet any human being ( who is human enough) will feel the same way, I did.
One might have seen many love stories. Where love is expressed , sung and celebrated in various ways but what would you say about such a couple?
The man:Is a muslim who meets the woman during this bus journey only ,doesn?t believe in cast system and is a roamer a free soul to be exact.
The woman: Is a typical tamil Brahmin who is happily married and have a nine month old son .She strongly believe in cast system and is skeptical even about touching a muslim fellow.
There are many scenes worth remembering . One of my favourite is the conversation between raja and Meenakshi in the train.
2.The Message
Venue: Bus
Character: Several traveler in the bus and Raja and Meenakshi sharing a seat.
Some hindu extremists forcefully enters the bus and start looking for non hindus so that they can kill them . They ask raja oye naam kya hai tera( what is your name?)
Before Raja could reply Meenakshi handover her son to raja and say He is Mr. Iyer ?.Subramaniyam Iyer and saves his life.
The movie raises several questions and gives several messages as well.
In one of the scenes raja describe an incident where his life was saved juss because of his religion and he thanked his gods ?on the contrary here his life is saved just because a lady lend him her name .
One thing is certain religion is not powerful enough to reflect itself in a person . If it is then no Jahangir ahmed could hide his identity juss by saying that he is Mr. Iyer.
Humanity and love are the only religions which can save our generations from this fanaticism and ensure a safe and happy life for generations to come.
Starcast
Konkona Sen gave her the best performance as Meenakshi Iyer. The dialect with which she pronounce ? feeessix(physics)? was very praise worthy. Like mother like daughter?what more can I say about her.
Rahul Bose seems like the perfect choice for the character he played. A character who is a roamer a free soul as I mentioned earlier. His heart knows no bounds in term of religion , cast or area.
Plot
The movie doesn?t need any.
Still if you insist on knowing here it is?.
A bus journey. A group of religious fanatics attacking the bus and killing people.A curfew stricken area where raja and Meenakshi are forced to live in an abandoned guest house in a forest.
Final Thought
In conclusion, there is a marvelous anecdote from the occasion of Russell's ninetieth birthday that best serves to summarize his attitude toward God and religion. A London lady sat next to him at this party, and over the soup she suggested to him that he was not only the world's most famous atheist but, by this time, very probably the world's oldest atheist. ''What will you do, Bertie, if it turns out you're wrong?'' she asked. ''I mean, what if -- uh -- when the time comes, you should meet Him? What will you say?'' Russell was delighted with the question. His bright, birdlike eyes grew even brighter as he contemplated this possible future dialogue, and then he pointed a finger upward and cried, ''Why, I should say, 'God, you gave us insufficient evidence.'''
Al Seckel, in Preface to Bertrand Russell on God and Religion
I summarize by not what I think of movie but with a prayer to almighty.
Please give us sufficient evidence ?not the evidence of your existence but the evidence of the fact that there is only one YOU.
Amen?
