The Miramar beach is located about 3 kms from the Panaji City. It is also called as the Panaji's local beach. If you travel by bus from Panaji Bus Stand to Miramar it will cos you around 4 rupees while if you travel by rickshaw or taxi you wil have to pay around 40 rupees.

The Miramar Beach is also called as the Gaspar Dias Beach. Gasper Dias was an officer in the army of the Portuguese Viceroy. However there are some who believe that Gaspar Dias was a fisherman and in love with Dona Paula the Viceroy's daughter. Since the Viceroy refused to accept their love both committed suicide by flinging themselves from the cliffs into the sea. The place where they committed suicide is called Dona Paula and the Miramar Beach was called the Gaspar Dias Beach.

However , the love story is a figment of imagination according to historians and they claim that Dona Paula and Gaspar Dias had not even existed during the same period of time.

As you approach the Miramar Beach from the Panajim City you shall cross the Campal parade grounds where the Independence Day and republic day parades are held .There is Jawahar Bal Bhavan located in the Campal area with a garden for kids.

When you get down at Miramar Beach , you shall see black statues of two young men holding a burning torch in their hands together. One of the boys is wearing a dhoti while the other is wearing a shirt and half pant. This is symbolic of the Hindu Christian unity in the state.

The beach is by and large clean and well maintained. However this beach is frequented by locals and you shall not find any foreigners on this beach. Besides this beach there are no beach shacks. On website of Goa Tourism, it is claimed that you can enjoy a bhel puri on the Miramar beach. Frankly speaking I did not find any single stall selling Bhel Puri. There is an outlet of U.S. Pizza but it is at a considerable distance from the beach.

Miramar Beach is good for those who want an uncrowded beach near the Panjim City. Transportation is easily available. Addition of few facilities such as eating stalls and toilets will go a long way in attracting more tourists to the beach. Miramar Beach is covered in the South Goa tour but the bus only passes by and the guide gives a brief explanation about the beach.

A good place to visit to view the sunset.
