Best for October-February

Mae Hong son is about 20 minutes away from Chaing Mai by Air. There are 2 Airlines to choose from which is Nok Air and THAI. Recently, there's a direct flight from Bangkok by PB air.

If you take bus, it would be at least 6 hours. This city is peacefully isolated for the outside world. It can be said that now Mae Hong Son become a '' dream destination'' for both Thais and foreigners. The air-ticket of Thai airways to this city from Chiang Mai is 1300 Bhat.

Its airport is small, but very close to the city. On the returning day, you can go to check in, and then go back to have some snack in the city. The tourist attractions of this city is the Karen village. Karen is the minority living along the Burmese-Thai border.

The fish-cave is also interesting. Most of its temple are burmese sytle which is quite difficult to find in other region of the country. The nature is quite well perserved, as it's far from the city. Half way to Mae Hong Son, you can make a stop at Pai district.

Actually, Pai is also 130 kilos from Chiang Mai. Nok Air also has a flight to this town.

I went there last a couple of week by motorcycle. There, you can make an elephant ride. Rafting or taking a dip in the natural hot water coming from the hot spring.

Trendy bars are around the city, but the prices of is not so reasonable. Pai is building its airport. There is a National Park there called '' Huay Nam Dang'', 200 bhats is the entrance fee for the foreigner. At night, the scent of forest was spread around, and it was so good. A lot of books should be brought to kill the time here. A honeymoon trip is highly recommended. Credit Card can be used just some big resort or big restaurant. If you do not want to make a long stop in Chiang Mai, the first flight from Bangkok ( TG 100) should be booked.

In fact, there's a direct from Bangaladesh to Chiang Mai. Unfortunately, no direct from India.... Raphiphat Phatthana, Chiang Mai University , Thailand
