Kya Love story Hai is a done to death love  triangle that does not have a novel script. The screenplay too is very basic and has nothing extraordinary and the actors efforts too do come across as average. The story revolves around a young sweet girl next door and an enthusiastic boy who falls head over heels for her. Unfortunately the boy does not have the courage to directly admit his feelings for the girl and he also finds out that the girl is put off by his carefree and frivolous lifestyle. Later a young over ambitious guy enters the picture and outwardly the girl feels he is the perfect man to be her husband. But her heart says something else? So now she has to make a choice? Well no prizes for guessing the climax as that too is extremely predictable. Kya Love Story Hai has nothing new to offer in terms of story and the screenplay and performances too are extremely mediocre. Kya Love Story Hai does not manage to captivate the audiences interest; it is below average and is disappointing.

The film is a triangular love story directed by Lovely Singh and stars Ayesha Takia as Kaajal, Tusshar Kapoor as Arjun newcomer Karan Hukku as Ranveer Oberoi and Kareena Kapoor in a special appearance for a song. The story and screenplay has been written by Rahul Singh and the music has been composed by Pritam.

Arjun is a young lad who has been blessed with a secure future thanks to his parents money and hence he goes on to lead a carefree but frivolous lifestyle in Cape Town. He is a qualified architect but unfortunately does not have any goal or ambition. One day however he meets a sweet girl next door, Kaajal and gradually falls for her sweet and innocent nature. But Kaajal is serious about doing something with her life and focused about her career and ambition. Though Arjun is in love with her, he never works up the nerve to tell her directly but one day he gets to know her views about him and his lifestyle. Kaajal feels that Arjun is wasting away his life and does not feel that any girl would want to be with him as he does not have any ambition nor any self made identity. Arjun is hurt that the girl whom he loves has this opinion about him. So he decides to take control of his life and make something of himself and off he goes to build his career in another city.

While Arjun is gone, Kaajal bumps into the outwardly ideal Mr. Right, business entrepreneur Ranveer Oberoi a man whom she feels will make a good husband. Ranveer too is drawn to Kaajal and decides that she will make a good wife and hence after a whirlwind courtship they get engaged. Unfortunately one day the now self made man Arjun bumps into the girl for whom his heart still beats. Kaajal too is happy to see Arjun and his achievements. Unfortunately it is too late as Kaajal is engaged to be married and hence the self sacrificing Arjun decides not to rock the boat. But now it is Kaajal who has an attack of the conscience and she seems to be torn between her fiancé and the guy whom she actually loves, Arjun. So whom will Kaajal choose?

The film’s script is not novel and love stories have been done time and time again. Also script writer Rahul Singh has not introduced anything different or unique about this love story. In fact there are some extremely common ploys of this love story too like the triangular aspect, the boy being unable to convey his feelings, the girl being caught in a dilemma, lots of song and dance etc which are very common. The screenplay too has been done in a very amateur manner, the humourous aspect with the two sidekicks is crass and in poor taste. The love triangle too is not absorbing and does not hold the audiences interest. First time debutant director Lovely Singh’s execution is average but his script and screenplay make the film weak.

The music by Pritam is average, but the songs are not placed appropriately. The one item song ‘Its Rocking’ which features Kareena Kapoor sounds good and is picturised well too. The cinematography which includes locales of Cape Town is pleasant to the eye. Dialogues are just about average and performances too are a let down from such capable actors. The flow of the film is slow paced and it could have been still further edited. Also the film makes use of a lot of convenient aspects where Tusshar Kapoor suddenly re-meets Ayesha at a wedding function in spite of knowing that she would be there. Also the aspect that Ayesha is focused and wants to have a goal and ambition in life is depicted earlier and then conveniently she is ready to give up her life to become a house wife. There are many loopholes within the screenplay which stand out sorely. The drama quotient is nil and the climax is predictable.

Tusshar Kapoor’s romantic hero role takes a beating once again and he is unable to pull off the romantic hero role. His performance is unconvincing and one immediately feels that he should stick to playing comic roles. Ayesha Takia has already proved her mettle in several films, but unfortunately she too doesn’t have much to do in the film and her performance is mediocre. Debutant Karan Hukku seems stiff and uncomfortable and his performance is lacking. The rest of the cast seems below average in their performances.

Audiences are bored of love stories and want something different and exciting nowadays. Unfortunately this love story has nothing new to offer audiences; hence at the box office it will probably not have a good response. Also the film opened on the day of the Ash-Abhi wedding which had much more drama and hullabaloo. Kya Love Story Hai has an uninspiring script, a lifeless screenplay and a done to death concept, hence the film is much below average.
