In December 2007, I booked a Kuwait Airways ticket from Delhi to Kuwait. Kuwait Airways was the only airline offering direct flights from Delhi to Kuwait apart from Air India. I was carrying about 5 kilos more than I was allowed to carry but they didn't ask me to pay extra for it.
The flight was on time and my seat was nice and comfortable but for the class in which I was traveling, I have seen better. For some reason the aircraft took 20 mins to takeoff. I noticed that of the air attendants in First and Business class, all were Kuwaiti/Arab apart from one while it seemed that all the attendants in Economy class were Indians. This seemed to me to be a case of ethnic/racial discrimination. We were offered snacks and juice but no alcohol.
There was no in-seat power supply, the in-flight entertainment wasn't very exciting, the aircraft didn't seem to be very clean and worse, the attendants came across as rude and lazy. After about 20 mins into the flight, the attendants started serving meal. It was a three course meal but it seemed as if the food was three days old. I complained about this to the attendant and she offered me another dish but since I am vegetarian and there was no other veg dish available, I just had salad, yogurt and custard. It was a short journey (about 3.5 hours) and by the time I ate food and took a 2 hour nap, we had reached Kuwait.
This was the first time I was flying by Kuwait Airways. I have flown on this route twice before but booked Emirates since my parents suggested me to do so. But Emirates doesn't offer direct flight from Delhi to Kuwait so I gave Kuwait Airways a shot despite my parents advising me against it. I should have taken their advise. But looking at the brighter side, I'm glad it was just a 3.5 hour flight. One thing is for sure, I'm not going to book a Kuwait Airways ticket for long journeys in future unless there is no other option.
