Cricket & Politics are great levellers

The movie revolves around 3 friends who grow up in Gujerat.   How their lives get interwoven with incidents that shook Gujerat in 2001 with earthquake & the riots post Godra is the crux of the movie.  Of course real life incident adds authencity to the story telling, the film is obviously based on Chetan Bhagats successful novel 3 mistakes of my life. The movie begins with introduction of characters with who are relatively unknown in terms of stardom.  Ishaan ( Sushant Rajput ) makes a successful debut under the crafty director Abishek Kapoor.  He has blended his personality beautifully with cricket and churned him into an authentic cricket buff who had reasonable success in his playing career.   He helps to fine tune batting skills of a budding youngster and at the same time helps his friend Govind to boost his sports business whenever he finds time.   Urmi, helps Govind financially  through his uncle who is a politician.

How the slow moving movie is crisply edited to make it relevant to the audience with politics, cricket and friendship taken for a roller coaster ride is really gripping. Vidya ( Amrita Puri ) who happens to be sister of Ishaan brings in a fresh breath with her easy going performance.  She is supposed to take Maths tution from Govind and ultimately she ends up as a lover in troubled times. The brutality of Natures destruction and Human beings animal instinct is very well exploited by the author to prove a point.   Nobody can con trol the forces of  nature except almighty, but human anger can be smothered by times.   And people in Gujerat have definitely learned to move on while rest of  the nation is on rewind mode.  How important is cricket in acting as balm in India is not realised by majority but it silently delivers the healing  touch. The movie is brilliantly directed and presented in visual format without any major starcast to boast for.  Go watch the movie for the sheer enjoyment may be it will surprise you in the end.   All the actors have given their best  to make it a complete entertainer with a silent message.  Kudos to Sushant who migrated from a successful serial Pavitra Rishta on small screen to the big screen.

Epilouge :  I remember we were stuck on Nasik Ghat section on 26th January 2001, with a huge traffic jam and had a close encounter with terror, and ultimately when we landed in Shirdi after a tiring drive we found that the news channels were beaming the destruction caused by Earthquake.  If we could rewrite or erase from memory the pages of history ( including post Godra days ) this would be the Day.
