Juicy Couture, the youthful brand created by stodgy old Liz Clairborne has taken off in a big way in the U.S. Here in San Francisco there are three flagship stores in the downtown alone!

Juicy not only sells bags and purses(more about that later), but its signature velour tracksuits($94-$120), a seasonal ready-to-wear line priced$80-$400, and a couture line priced about$500 -$2, 500.

Dog gear(Yes, you heard that right, Dorothy) for little Toto, includes doggy shampoo and perfume($45-65) so he can smell like a flower while scampering down the yellow brick road; little jackets and t-shirts($35-65); and leashes and collars, all variously decked out in Juicy pink or with the signature crown.

My favorite Juicy decadence are their large velour bags, bedecked with satin ribbons and charms, embroidered with the Scotty dog(hello, Toto!) crest, the Juicy Couture logo, and even a fairy tale about how the company came to be.(Satchels, hobo bags, clutches and totes will set you back between roughly$125 -$300)

However, as charming as these are, they are not terribly practical. They don't wear well in the rain, but gosh, they are fluffy and cute! And the colors coordinate with that season's velour tracksuits too! How ginchy can you get, girrlfriend?

Juicy also makes leather bags, but I've always used Coach, so I can't(and didn't) comment on the quality of leather above.

(Here's a tip - check out Lohmans or a similar high-end discount retailer - they often carry Juicy at half to 1/3 the price you would pay in the stores.)

Finally, Juicy makes a wonderfully, well.Juicy perfume with accompanying body wash and lotion. It's a great scent and in my experience wearing it, both men and women have come up to me and asked what fragrance I was wearing, to complement it.(Shower Gel and "Body Sorbet" are$40 and$45, respectively; the eau de parfum is a hefty$85. But don't despair, the stuff is so heady it only takes a tiny spritz on the wrists, rubbed behind both ears to keep you smelling.JUICY all day.)

Juicy is Liz Clairborn's entree into the young adult market - so for geezers like me, it's a little young style-wise. Except for the tracksuits, which are timeless, most of the clothes are best suited for the 13-23 year old crowd - with Mummy's credit card! Alternate brands to consider would include Nike(bad labour practices! Booo!); Speedo(really!); and Adidas(All Day I Dream About Sex) for the tracksuits. But none of them come in that velvety-soft multi-coloured velour. Victoria's Secret's PINK line is another option for buyers who want Juicy but not the price tag.

Bottom line: Juicy is about fun! It's about conspicuous overconsumption of silly things like charm bracelets and doggy frou-frou, and velvet hobo bags.(I broke down and bought one of the huge hobo bags with all the ribbons and charms and frou-frou. When I took it home and looked at myself carrying it in front of the mirror, my inner gay man said, "Girlfriend, it makes you look fat!" so I took it back.)

But I still ADORE my wallet that says, "Some Girls Have All the Juicy!" on one side, with a big leather heart with an embossed "J" on the other. It's just enough Juicy for me. And deep down, every girl's got Juicy in her soul.;-)
